We enable innovators to accomplish more by helping them make informed decisions, be more productive, comply with regulations and ultimately achieve superior results. Our overall success is measured by how well we deliver these results. We are proud to directly support and serve these innovators in their endeavors to better humankind.

About the Team

We’re launching a small, high-impact innovation team tasked with rapidly exploring new product ideas, technologies, and experiences. We’re looking for a Technical Leader who is both a top-tier engineer and an inspiring hands-on leader. You’ll guide a small team of engineers and work side-by-side with a senior product manager to define, build, and iterate on early-stage concepts.

About the Role

The Director of Research & Software Engineering will lead the development of our regulated Life Sciences SaaS platform, defining the technical vision, architecture, and strategy. This role ensures compliance with industry regulations (such as GxP and FDA 21 CFR Part 11), oversees daily operations, drives software development best practices, and manages global teams. You will be responsible for planning and executing product delivery while fostering innovation in cloud architecture, security, and software development.

Conditions of Employment:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • Hybrid Position required to report to one of the following Horsham, PA, Washington, DC (Alexandria, VA) or Raleigh, NC

Requirements

  • Proven experience (7+ years) as a software engineer.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) of software engineering leadership, managing diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Strong architecture and coding skills across the stack (e.g., backend, frontend, cloud).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and iterate on products quickly, ideally in a startup or innovation lab environment.
  • Experience leading small, cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, experimentation, and shifting priorities.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with rapid prototyping and user testing.
  • Familiarity with lean product development or design thinking.
  • Prior work in greenfield or 01 product environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical owner of MVPs and experimental products from concept through delivery.
  • Design and implement scalable prototypes with a focus on velocity, quality, and flexibility.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of engineers; establish best practices that encourage autonomy, innovation, and rapid iteration.
  • Collaborate with the product manager to shape roadmaps, scope experiments, and make build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term technical thinking.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns appropriate for early-stage development.
  • Create an engineering culture that celebrates experimentation, fast learning, and user feedback.
