Job Description:

The Country HSE Manager will drive behavioral change by implementing Group-wide performance improvement programs and practices to foster an exemplary Safety and Sustainability culture throughout the organization in Poland. As a key leader in our organization, you will foster a culture of health, safety, and environmental learning and continuous improvement. You will promote the sharing of lessons learned and best practices, staying updated on industry trends to drive innovation and enhance safety performance.

The individual in this role will coach, support, and provide advice to leadership and line managers on Safety and Sustainability matters, while reporting on the organization's performance across the Hitachi Energy value chain. This position will support the business by leveraging in-depth Safety and Sustainability knowledge to offer solutions and guidance.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Ensure Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)-related fiduciary duties are managed by establishing processes to meet HSE regulatory requirements and supporting Business Units (BUs) on legal fiduciary duties.
  • Collaborate with HUB HSE Leads from all business units and functions in Poland, as well as the Global HSE team. Additionally, you will work closely with country and local business units and function heads/leads. You will report on challenges and opportunities to your direct supervisor, Country Managing Director, and the Board of Directors in the country, ensuring effective communication and alignment across all levels.
  • Implements policies and standards, ensuring the area of responsibility is audited according to the audit program. Assists the Board of Directors in understanding their obligations, liabilities, and roles in accordance with local HSE laws and Hitachi Energy policies, instructions, and standards. Supports compliance with human rights, security, and crisis management processes.
  • Plans, executes, and contributes to Health, Safety, Environment, and Corporate Responsibility projects. Develops and reports on project objectives, while managing resources such as manpower, finances, and other relevant factors.
  • Monitor emerging risks, ensure proper risk management, and escalate issues, as necessary. Facilitate the HSE risk management process within the country, considering local business units and function heads/leads, ensuring all processes are implemented effectively.
  • Report HSE incidents, provide feedback on lessons learned and best practices from own unit and across Hitachi Energy to management and employees. Ensure required incident reporting to authorities and timely completion of investigations. Support communications in response to incident investigations, and report on HSE performance and progress in implementing safety and sustainability objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Represent the company externally in HSE matters when interacting with customers, local authorities, audits (e.g., ISO, external inspections, and other stakeholders). Engage external and internal stakeholders to report on, raise awareness of, and gain commitment to HSE efforts and performance. Obtain objective feedback and cooperate with other functions and business partners to drive performance.
  • Ensure that the area of responsibility is appropriately organized, staffed, skilled, and directed, managing the HSE team including OHS services according to country legal requirements. You will guide, motivate, and develop direct and indirect subordinates within HR and HSE policies, fostering a high-performing and cohesive team.

Your background

  • University degree in Health & Safety or a related field, with HSE/OHS postgraduate studies.
  • At least 4 years in occupational OHS service and a minimum of 6 years in a managerial position, preferably in an international manufacturing/service company.
  • Proficiency in English and Polish, both spoken and written.
  •  In-depth understanding of HSE and environmental local laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience in team management, team building, cooperation, and development.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to manage change, work under pressure, and in dynamic conditions.
  • Valued in this position are creativity and innovation, a strong goal orientation, and the ability to build trust with stakeholders at all managerial levels. You should be capable of independently initiating actions and making decisions.
