About the Role

The Development Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships provides exceptional organizational support in the areas of foundations, and corporate partnerships. These activities include fund development and food-raising efforts, partnership relationship, impact report writing, and donor stewardship. They ensure a positive image of Food Banks Canada with the food banking network, organizational stakeholders, and the public. The Development Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships also works closely with program leads to ensure that donor deliverables are met and reported on in a timely manner.

Please note, this is a temporary 18-month term position.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Oversee a portfolio of philanthropic donors and prospects, identifying those with an interest in Food Banks Canada’s work, engaging with them, soliciting, and closing gifts, and nurturing donor relationships to uncover opportunities for growth
  • Work collaboratively with Philanthropic Partnerships team to develop Letters of Intent, impact reports and stewardship plans in collaboration with other internal teams
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Philanthropic Partnerships and Director, Philanthropic Partnerships to develop grant proposals in consultation with the programs, research/advocacy, food, and other development team members
  • Support the Director, Philanthropic Partnerships on a portfolio of foundations and corporations who are philanthropically focused
  • Assist the Manager, Philanthropic Partnerships to broker strategic relationships and partnership opportunities that help to raise funds and food to benefit the food banks network
  • Maintain a grant proposal and reporting calendar, ensuring that deadlines are met
  • Serve as the liaison between program leads and the development team
  • Ensure the CRM records for assigned foundations and accounts are current and maintain excellent data hygiene
  • Complete broad-based research to investigate program alignment to create a pipeline of suitable foundation leads

What You Will Need

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or equivalent in writing/communications (preferred), fundraising management, or public relations
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in fundraising management, or public relations or communications in development/fundraising for a not for profit or charitable organization or support position
  • Superior writing and presentation development skills, with a preference for candidates with experience completing cases for support and impact reporting
  • Prospect research experience and knowledge of prospect research tools
  • An eye for document design, editing skills and expertise in different design software is a strong asset
  • Work or volunteer experience with food banks and/or hunger reduction is a strong asset

Working Conditions

  • Temporary 18-month term position
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • This position is remote and may be based anywhere in Canada
