The Role:



The Medical Affairs Lead develops and establishes long term Disease Area strategy with Disease Area Partners and by collaborating with Scientific Partners across the portfolio


Enables tactical execution of medical plan activities including, but not limited to: 

  • Clinical evidence generation
  • Medical education
  • Stakeholder engagement (including key opinion leaders, patient organizations, professional societies) 

May serves as internal and external medical spokesperson internal/external for their assigned disease area 


Personnel Management

  • Provides coaching, direction and development opportunities for direct reports 
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an agile, open culture.
  • Ensure team members have the relevant medical or scientific background, knowledge and expertise
  • Analyzes short- and long-term resource requirements to make headcount change recommendations  as required

Serve as a local affiliate interface to the global disease area networks, ensuring local alignment and input into global strategies


Must maintain knowledge of applicable research and literature 


May respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, or off-label information.




Requirements

Preferred requirements:

  • MD/DO with clinical practice and extensive strategic industry experience, preferably in the relevant disease areas is strongly preferred, however other candidates will be considered. 
  • Proven ability to inspire and motivate teams to make a big impact and deliver their best every day, previous people leadership/management experience a strong asset 
  • Consistent record of building collaborative relationships with peers and teams, helping cross-functional teams address strategic opportunities and solve problems across a matrixed organization
  • A desire and openness to learning and continuous improvement, both of yourself and your team members
  • Ability to present a wide range of scientific and medical topics beyond their clinical experience
  • Established relationships with key stakeholders in managed care organizations, employee benefits experts, large health systems and others preferred 
  • Experience or ability to present a wide range of scientific or medical topics in a variety of settings
  • Excellent written, oral, teaching, lecture and presentation skills with an ability to rapidly adjust the sophistication of the presentation to the audience
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently managing time and expectations
  • Previous experience and knowledge of in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) or relevant experience in Diagnostic Solution disease areas in a healthcare or clinical R&D environment is valuable
  • Experience in completing and implementing attainable medical strategies
  • Familiarity with the current legal and regulatory landscape pertinent to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology and managed care industry
