Job description

Here at ScottsMiracle-Gro there is no such thing as a typical day. Our culture is constantly energized by new and exciting growth opportunities and at a rapid pace. Below are details on an open job. If the role interests you and you would like to be considered we encourage you to apply!

We are looking for an Assistant Brand Manager (Pro and Commercial) to join our Brand Marketing team at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, Ohio (Columbus region).

As the Assistant Brand Manager – Pro and Commercial, you will help lead the strategic expansion and commercial execution of our dedicated professional initiatives, bridging commercial B2B channel distribution with modern CPG brand marketing. In this role, you will operate as an associate general manager of the business, driving cross-functional alignment to serve commercial landscape contractors, "mow & blow" operators, and retail/distribution networks. Concurrently, you will leverage ScottsMiracle-Gro’s legacy of CPG marketing excellence to elevate our pro-grade brand equity, packaging, product innovation, and end-user marketing across both commercial accounts and prosumer retail touchpoints.

At ScottsMiracle-Gro, you will define and champion your own ideas, lead high-visibility growth initiatives within an entrepreneurial business segment, and have the opportunity to rotate across business units to build well-rounded executive leadership capabilities.

Everyday you will:

  • Drive Cross-Functional Project Execution: Coordinate daily project workflows across commercial B2B sales, agronomic R&D, supply chain, regulatory, finance, and creative agency partners to keep brand deliverables on schedule.
  • Support B2B & CPG Commercialization: Assist in taking commercial lawn and turf innovations from concept through development, packaging production, distributor listing, and commercial rollout.
  • Build Commercial Sales Enablement Assets: Partner directly with the commercial sales organization to create high-impact selling decks, distributor pitch toolkits, technical sell sheets, operator rebate collateral, and trial proof narratives using field research data.
  • Manage Portfolio & Artwork Workflows: Track product lifecycle milestones across professional product line-ups, guiding packaging copy, regulatory claim approvals, and graphic design updates through completion.
  • Synthesize Commercial Data & Insights: Pull, synthesize, and report on wholesale shipment trends, distributor POS data, field inventory, and end-user customer insights to identify volume risks and growth opportunities.
  • Monitor Competitor & Market Activity: Track competitive movements in the professional and prosumer landscape—including pricing, promotional plays, and positioning by vertically integrated distributors and regional suppliers—to help penetrate the market.
  • Assist in P&L & Budget Administration: Track brand marketing budgets, sample distributions, trade promotion allocations, and project expenses to support business unit margin targets.
  • Represent the Voice of the Professional Customer: Work with an internal insights team to collect and articulate customer feedback from landscape contractors, consumers, and customers to inform product refinements and marketing briefs.

To thrive in this role:

  • Dual-Channel Curiosity: You are energized by learning both the mechanics of two-step B2B wholesale distribution and the fundamentals of consumer brand positioning and packaging design.
  • Proactive Bias for Action: You are organized, comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity, and eager to roll up your sleeves to solve operational challenges.
  • Analytical Storytelling: You can analyze multiple data streams—from wholesale volume reports to retail POS—and translate them into actionable summaries and clear presentation decks.
  • Collaborative Communication: You build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, working comfortably alongside agronomic scientists, sales directors, creative copywriters, and supply planners.
  • Accountability & Detail Orientation: You take personal ownership of project execution, ensuring deadlines, brand style guidelines, and regulatory requirements are met consistently.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Agribusiness, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in brand management, product marketing, or commercial marketing within a consumer goods company, commercial B2B supplier, or hybrid B2B/CPG organization.
  • Proven project management experience with a track record of cross-functional team leadership, managing competing deadlines, and bringing products or campaigns to market.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with demonstrated experience evaluating sales reports, market research, and financial metrics.

Some other nice to haves:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Marketing or General Management.
  • Experience working within or supporting commercial contractor channels, wholesale trade distribution (e.g., landscape, turf, agricultural, or building products supply), or professional dealer networks.
  • Familiarity with commercial trade program development, operator incentive architectures, and distributor co-op marketing.
  • Experience in creative brief development, B2B sales enablement collateral, and integrated digital/trade campaign execution.
  • Experience utilize AI to increase position efficiency
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $103,700.00 - $122,000.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
