At Enginuity, we believe that UK engineers can change the world, given the opportunity. The UK has an engineering and manufacturing skills gap, and rapidly changing challenges and technologies make it even harder for employers to identify and find the right skills at the right time. That's why our charitable objectives are based on supporting the UK’s engineering and manufacturing sector to adapt to the challenges it faces today.

Exam Developer - Online Exams
Permanent, Full Time: 35 hours per week
Salary: up to £37,000 (depending on experience) + Benefits
Home based in England, Scotland or Wales with occasional national travel for quarterly meetings and ad hoc events

If you have experience developing assessments and enjoy combining attention to detail with data and problem solving, this could be a great opportunity. As an Exam Developer at EAL, you’ll help shape and maintain high quality online examinations that are accurate, fair and fit for purpose, supporting centres and learners across the UK.

About the role

As an Exam Developer, you’ll develop, maintain and quality assure EAL’s online examinations and item banks, ensuring they remain current, reliable, accessible and compliant with regulatory requirements. You’ll use statistical analysis to understand how examination questions are performing and identify where items need to be reviewed, amended or replaced.

You’ll coordinate the development and review of examinations, working with subject matter experts, item writers and reviewers to produce high quality assessment materials. You’ll also use EAL’s online examination systems to build, test and release content, maintaining accurate records and version control throughout.

Working closely with colleagues across Product, Quality and Compliance, you’ll help ensure examinations continue to meet the needs of learners and centres while supporting continuous improvement in assessment development and quality assurance.

About you

You’ll have experience developing, maintaining or reviewing assessments, ideally within an awarding organisation or other regulated assessment environment. Though you will need to have an awareness of UK awarding organisation regulation. You’ll also understand assessment principles and be confident working with online testing platforms and item banks, including test building, quality assurance and version control.

You’ll be comfortable interpreting item and test performance information and using this to make informed decisions about assessment content. Additionally, you’ll bring excellent planning and communication skills, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Experience working with subject matter experts, item writers and reviewers will be important, alongside confidence using online assessment systems and digital workflows. Experience within an Awarding Organisation dealing with examinations, educational assessment qualifications or CPD, and experience with Angoff processes would be advantageous.
