The Role

They’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to maintain accurate financial records and support financial reporting across a portfolio of North American clients.

This role goes beyond transactional bookkeeping. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of financial records, reviewing the work of bookkeepers, supporting financial reporting and analysis, and gradually taking on more client-facing responsibilities.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with multiple businesses simultaneously, has previous experience with U.S. or Canadian companies, and enjoys working in startup and small-business environments.

What You'll Do

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records across multiple client accounts.
• Process accounts payable and receivables.
• Prepare and reconcile bank statements.
• Manage general ledger accounts.
• Assist with payroll processing.
• Assist with preparing financial reports and statements.
• Review financial information and KPIs to identify trends, discrepancies, or potential issues.
• Review and oversee the work of bookkeepers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Represent the company in client meetings, gradually taking on more client-facing responsibilities as you become familiar with each account.
• Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.
• File and maintain financial documents.
• Assist with audits and tax preparations, including preparing accurate records and supporting documentation for external CPAs.
• Work with AI-enabled and automated accounting workflows, reviewing outputs and adapting to new processes and technologies.
• Assist with any ad hoc accounting duties as and when required.

Ideal Profile

• Degree or formal post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• At least 2–4 years of hands-on accounting experience, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and the full accounting cycle.
• Previous experience working with U.S. and/or Canadian companies or clients.
• Hands-on professional experience with both QuickBooks Online and Xero.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Comfortable reviewing the work of bookkeepers and providing guidance when needed.
• Able to manage multiple clients, entities, and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities.
• Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
• Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar platforms as part of your regular workflow.
• Tech-savvy, adaptable, and interested in working with increasingly automated accounting processes.
• Advanced professional English, with confident verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote team.
• High level of discretion when handling confidential financial information.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with startups or small and mid-sized businesses.
• Previous experience in an accounting firm, outsourced accounting company, or other multi-client environment.
• Experience supervising or reviewing the work of bookkeepers or junior accountants.
• Familiarity with Canadian and/or U.S. tax regulations.
• Payroll experience.
• Experience with project management tools such as ClickUp, Asana, or Trello.
• Familiarity with expense management platforms such as Ramp or Expensify.
• Experience working with accounting automations or AI-enabled workflows.
