Job description

Client Accounting Services Senior Manager Remote | East Coast CPA & Advisory Firm   If you’re a CAS leader who wants the opportunity to build something, develop people and help business owners make better decisions, we should probably talk.   Benaiah Consulting Group has been engaged by a highly respected, people-first CPA and advisory firm to identify a Client Accounting Services Director for an established and growing practice.   This isn’t a turnaround situation. The foundation is already there with nearly $2M in recurring revenue, an established team of 11+ professionals, a growing client base, and strong support from firm leadership.   The firm is looking for a leader who can take an already successful CAS practice to the next level, with greater emphasis on advisory, consulting, strategic insight, and deeper client relationships.   For the right person, there is also a clearly defined path toward partnership.   The Opportunity The firm isn’t looking for someone to simply inherit a book of clients and keep things moving. They’re looking for someone who wants to help shape what a modern CAS and advisory practice should look like over the next several years.   As Director, you’ll lead and develop the people already serving clients while helping the firm continue evolving from traditional outsourced accounting toward a more proactive advisory model.   The idea is pretty simple. Clients don’t just need someone to tell them what happened last month. They need someone who can help them understand why it happened, what it means for their business and what they should consider doing next.   The firm’s clients range from emerging businesses to established organizations generating $25M+ in annual revenue. Many of those owners need more than accurate financials.   They need someone who can help them understand what is happening with cash flow and margins, identify the KPIs that actually matter, think through hiring and investment decisions, understand where profitability may be slipping and develop a clearer picture of where the business is headed.   This Director will help build the people, processes, technology and advisory framework that allow the CAS team to have more of those conversations.   The goal isn’t simply to deliver more services. It’s to become more valuable to the client.   Developing the Team   A significant part of this opportunity is developing managers, seniors and staff who can grow beyond executing accounting work and become increasingly confident client advisors.   That means coaching people to ask better questions, communicate financial information clearly, recognize opportunities to add value and build stronger relationships with the entrepreneurs they serve.   You’ll also help create the accountability, career development, workflows and operating structure necessary to scale the practice without sacrificing the client experience.   The goal isn’t to create a practice dependent upon one great Director. It’s to build a team of people capable of creating value for clients.   Advisory, Technology and the Future of CAS   The firm believes technology, automation, and AI will continue changing how accounting work gets performed, and it sees that as an opportunity.   As routine work becomes increasingly automated, human judgment, curiosity, communication, business acumen and trusted relationships become even more important.   You’ll help evaluate where technology can remove friction, improve visibility, create capacity and allow the team to spend more time doing work that matters to clients.   That may include better reporting and dashboards, automation, cloud-based platforms, AI-enabled workflows, forecasting tools and other emerging technologies.   Technology, however, isn’t the strategy. Creating better client outcomes is.   Growing the Practice   There is significant opportunity to continue expanding the firm’s advisory capabilities, including outsourced CFO and controller advisory, forecasting and scenario planning, cash flow strategy, KPI development, profitability analysis, management reporting, strategic financial planning and operational consulting.   You’ll work alongside firm leadership to determine where the greatest opportunities exist and how those services should be positioned, priced, delivered and scaled.   This role isn’t about turning the Director into a salesperson. Growth should come from building deeper relationships, identifying opportunities to solve additional problems for existing clients, developing referral relationships, and helping build a reputation - both internally and externally - that attracts the right businesses.   Who We’re Looking For   We’re less interested in finding someone who checks every box on a traditional job description and more interested in finding the right kind of leader.   Someone who understands accounting but thinks beyond accounting.   Someone who can sit across from a business owner, listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, understand the story behind the numbers and help that owner make better decisions.   Someone who enjoys developing people, is willing to challenge the status quo when there is a better way and sees technology as leverage rather than a threat.   You’ll likely bring 8+ years of progressive experience within public accounting, CAS, outsourced accounting, advisory, or a closely related environment, along with meaningful leadership and client-facing experience.   Experience with modern cloud accounting and financial technology platforms is valuable. A CPA is strongly preferred, but it isn’t the defining characteristic of the person we’re trying to find.   Leadership, advisory capability, curiosity, business acumen and the ability to build trusted relationships matter more.   This Could Be a Great Fit If...   You’ve helped build or lead a CAS practice and believe the profession will continue moving toward advisory.   You enjoy talking with entrepreneurs as much as you enjoy understanding their financials.   You get genuine satisfaction from developing people.   You want the autonomy to influence how a practice operates without building one from scratch.   And you’re interested in earning your way into something bigger than another Senior Manager/Director title.   This Probably Isn’t Your Role If...   You prefer staying behind the scenes reviewing work rather than engaging with clients.   You view CAS primarily as bookkeeping, accounting production and month-end close.   You’d rather protect existing processes than question whether there is a better way.   Or you’re looking for another Director job rather than an opportunity to help build and influence a practice.   Compensation and Long-Term Opportunity   The anticipated base salary range is $160,000 to $210,000, depending on experience and the value you bring to the role.   The overall compensation structure also includes performance incentives tied to leadership and practice growth.   For the right leader who can develop people, deepen client relationships, expand advisory capabilities, and help grow the practice, the firm has a clear pathway to partnership.   Let’s Have a Conversation   Sometimes the best career opportunities aren’t about leaving something bad. They’re about recognizing when you’ve outgrown what you can currently influence.   If you’ve been thinking about what CAS should become, how advisory should really be delivered or what you might build if someone gave you the platform and support to do it, this may be worth a conversation.   Benaiah Consulting Group is conducting this search confidentially.   No résumé required to start the conversation.
