Job description

What if your next tax role actually used the part of your experience that took years to develop?

Not your ability to crank out another return.

Your ability to sit across from a business owner, understand what is happening in their business, recognize the tax implications, explain the options in plain English, and help them make a better decision.

That's exactly THIS JOB.

We're partnering again with a 100% remote CPA & Advisory firm we've successfully recruited for before, and they're adding another experienced tax professional to their advisory team.

And there are a few things worth knowing before you decide whether it's interesting.

You will not prepare tax returns.

Zero tax prep.

You'll oversee the tax work and remain responsible for technical accuracy, but your primary job is to think, review, advise and communicate.

You'll own relationships with a portfolio of business owners and lead quarterly strategy conversations throughout the year.

You'll review approximately 30 monthly financial statements, not simply to make sure the numbers tie, but to understand what those numbers are telling you.

You'll identify issues.

Spot opportunities.

Develop tax strategies.

Work with associates to make sure the accounting is clean.

And then you'll sit down with the client and explain what all of it means.

That's an important distinction:

This isn't a compliance job with some advisory sprinkled on top.

The advisory work is the job.

And when we say they want a strong communicator, we don't simply mean someone who's comfortable talking to clients.

We're looking for someone who can take a technically complicated tax issue and explain it to an SMB owner without making them feel like they need a tax degree to understand the conversation.

Someone curious enough to ask another question.

Someone willing to challenge a client when necessary.

Someone who doesn't wait for a client to ask, "What should I be thinking about?"

They've already been thinking about it.

A few specifics:

100% remote anywhere in the U.S., with Central and Eastern time zones preferred.

Targeted 36-hour workweek year-round.

$110K to $120K base, plus monthly, quarterly and annual performance incentives.

CPA preferred. An EA with exceptional entity-level tax experience may be considered.

You'll need 4+ years of public accounting tax experience, particularly with business entities.

Experience with QuickBooks Online, UltraTax and cloud/AI-enabled accounting technology is valuable.

But here's the part that probably matters most:

If the best part of your job is solving the problem rather than processing the return...

If you enjoy the client conversation more than another night working through a compliance queue...

And if you've reached the point in your career where you want your experience to create judgment and impact rather than simply more capacity...

this may be a conversation worth having.

Not because it's "modern."

Not because we promise "career growth."

And not because we're going to tell you it's a "great culture."

Those phrases don't tell you enough to make a career decision.

Let's talk about what the job actually looks like, how the firm actually operates, what they expect from you, and what you want the next chapter of your career to look like.

Then we can decide together whether those two stories belong together.
