Job description

Intro

For this position we are only looking for candidates located in Greece.

Nairon GmbH is a Swiss startup building AI voice agents that answer and make phone calls for businesses. Our platform runs real-time conversations over the phone and on the web, connected to our customers' telephony and business tools. We value clear communication, thoughtful engineering, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Join us as we continue to develop tools that make a difference.

We are hiring Software Engineers at every level, from graduates to seniors. You will work across our voice platform; where you start depends on your strengths and on what interests you most.

Tasks

As a Software Engineer at Nairon GmbH, your responsibilities will include:

  • Building Python services around our LiveKit-based real-time voice platform: call handling, events and integrations with our customers' CRMs, calendars and ticketing tools.
  • Improving the conversation itself: turn-taking, latency across speech recognition, language models and speech synthesis, prompting and tool calls.
  • Working with messaging and real-time data (NATS, Kafka, Redis-compatible stores) and designing services that handle failure, retries and backpressure.
  • Building evaluation: test calls, benchmarks and metrics that tell us when a change really helps.
  • Running what you build in the cloud with Docker and Kubernetes, with metrics, logs and traces you can trust.
  • Taking part in code reviews, technical discussions and architectural planning.

Requirements

Experience:

We hire at all levels: graduates and early-career engineers with substantial hands-on projects, mid-level engineers, and seniors who want to own larger parts of the platform. Scope and pay follow your experience.

Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Solid Python; for mid-level and up, asyncio and FastAPI or similar.
  • Good fundamentals in Git, APIs, testing and debugging.
  • An evaluation mindset: you measure before and after, and trust numbers over impressions.

Nice to have (any of these, not all):

  • Real-time audio or conversational AI: speech recognition, speech synthesis, voice activity detection, LLM APIs, LiveKit Agents, pipecat or WebRTC.
  • Distributed systems and messaging: NATS, Kafka, idempotency and backpressure.
  • Model serving on GPUs (vLLM or similar) or fine-tuning speech and language models.
  • SIP and VoIP basics, TypeScript or Go.
  • Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and observability with OpenTelemetry and Grafana.

Communication:

  • English proficiency is essential, both written and spoken, as it is the working language for all positions.
  • German is a plus, as many of our calls are in German.

Soft Skills:

  • Calm, systematic debugging when something breaks in a live call.
  • Ownership of a problem from the first bad call to the fix in production.
  • You work independently in a distributed team and write things down.

Benefits

  • Flexible Work Setup: Work fully remotely or from a co-working space — whichever suits you best.
  • Equipment Provided: Company laptop and phone provided for all employees.
  • Collaborative Environment: Join a small, agile team where your contributions have a direct impact.
  • Growth Opportunities: Work across the whole voice stack, from the phone line to the model, and grow toward the area you like most.

Closing

If you want to build AI conversations that work on real phone lines, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us which parts of the stack interest you most.
