Job Role: Financial Controller

Compensation range: $2,400 AUD - $3,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: Melbourne-based commercial gym equipment supplier, providing premium fitness products to leading health club networks across Australia including Snap Fitness, Jetts, Fitness First, and Goodlife. The business is in a growth phase and looking to bring marketing activity in-house under one skilled operator.

Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic, commercially minded and hands-on Financial Controller based in the Philippines to take complete ownership of the finance and accounting function for an established Australian business. Moving beyond basic transaction processing and reporting this role calls for a proactive leader who proactively identifies risks, refines operational processes and delivers timely financial insight to drive strategy. Initially you will lead a critical systems migration from MYOB EXO to MYOB AccountRight Plus, ensuring seamless data integrity, robust internal controls and optimized reporting workflows.

This position offers exceptional career progression as the company executes an ambitious expansion across the Asia-Pacific region over the next 12 months followed by global growth. Ideal candidates will possess a strong accounting background with practical experience in Australian business practices preferably with MYOB software expertise and excel in a fast-paced SME environment. As the organization expands you will have the direct opportunity to build and lead a high-performing finance team and transition into a broader regional executive role such as Regional Financial Controller or Head of Finance.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports.
  • Manage reconciliations, general ledger, journals and month/year-end closing.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and investigate variances.
  • Provide meaningful financial insights and maintain accurate records.

MYOB EXO to AccountRight Plus Migration

  • Review existing systems, financial processes and charts of accounts.
  • Clean and migrate financial, customer and supplier data, including opening balances, GST, receivables and payables.
  • Test and reconcile migrated data to ensure accuracy.
  • Establish controls, document procedures and train staff.
  • Improve and streamline finance processes while minimizing business disruption.

Accounts Receivable & Payable

  • Oversee invoicing, supplier bills, account reconciliations and payment scheduling.
  • Monitor debtor ageing, overdue accounts, supplier obligations and cash collection.
  • Resolve discrepancies, ensure accurate expense coding and maintain approval controls.

Cash Flow, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital.
  • Prepare annual budgets, monthly forecasts and financial projections.
  • Analyse budget variances and identify potential cash flow risks.
  • Support financial planning for future regional and international expansion.

Australian Tax & Compliance

  • Support GST, BAS, PAYG, superannuation and payroll reconciliations.
  • Prepare year-end financial information and coordinate with external accountants, auditors and advisors.
  • Oversee payroll and employee financial administration as required.

Financial Controls &  Improvement

  • Improve Financial Process workflows, reporting and internal controls.
  • Reduce manual data entry through automation and better systems.
  • Develop finance policies, procedures and approval processes.
  • Identify financial risks, improve record keeping and drive operational efficiency.

Commercial Support

  • Analyse product and customer profitability, margins, pricing, freight, landed costs and supplier expenses.
  • Monitor sales, inventory and cost performance.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and prepare financial models to support business decisions.

Growth, Leadership & Asia-Pacific Expansion

  • Support the business's planned Asia-Pacific expansion and future global growth.
  • Develop scalable financial reporting, controls and processes across multiple entities, countries and currencies.
  • Assist with international budgeting, market-entry planning, consolidated reporting and foreign currency management.
  • Coordinate with overseas accountants, tax advisors and professional service providers.
  • Identify finance systems and technology requirements as the business grows.

Building & Leading the Finance Team

  • Help recruit, develop and manage a finance team covering bookkeeping, AP, AR, payroll, management accounting and financial analysis as the business expands.
  • Transition from hands-on financial management to building effective systems, processes and team capabilities.

The ideal candidate must be able to manage the finance function hands-on today while building the systems, team and financial infrastructure needed to support tomorrow's growth.

Requirements

  • An accounting or finance background is highly favourable, including a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
