Job description

Digital Learning Designer / Developer – Job Description
Location: Remote (South Africa)

Also known as: Learning Experience Designer | E-learning Developer | Digital Learning Designer |
Instructional Designer and Developer

Design and build engaging digital learning with our experts and our customers, and use AI to do it
faster without cutting corners.

Reports to Director of Solutions
Level Mid-level, 5+ years minimum
Type Long-term contract, embedded in the team (Starts as a 6 month contract due to recent company merger - it will go long term after successful completion of the inital contract)

About the role
An E-learning provider helps organizations and individuals build the capability to adopt new technology.
Our digital learning sits alongside instructor-led training and hands-on labs, either as standalone
courses or as part of blended programs.

We are looking for a multi-skilled digital learning designer and developer to join the team on a long-
term contract. You will take a module from first conversation to finished build: scoping with subject
matter experts, designing the learning, writing the content and building it, mainly in Articulate
Storyline and Rise.

You will work with our own subject matter experts and, often, directly with customers and their
experts. You will be AI first, using Claude and other AI tools every day to speed up production while
keeping quality high.

What you will do
• Design the learning. Analyze needs, set learning objectives and choose the right approach and
instructional framework for each audience and outcome.
• Work with experts and customers. Run scoping and review sessions with our subject matter
experts and with customers and their experts, turning technical knowledge into clear, structured
learning.
• Write the content. Produce storyboards, scripts, scenarios, interactions and assessments that
are accurate, engaging and easy to follow.
• Build the modules. Develop interactive digital learning, mainly in Articulate Storyline and Rise,
and publish it to SCORM or xAPI for delivery through an LMS.
• Fit it into blended programs. Design digital modules that work alongside instructor-led training
and labs, as pre-work, reinforcement or follow-up.
• Work AI first. Use Claude and other AI tools to accelerate research, design, scripting, assessment
writing, media and review, checking every output for accuracy and quality.
• Improve how we work. Build reusable templates, prompts and AI workflows that make the
whole team faster.
• Own quality. Manage reviews and revisions, test builds across devices, and meet accessibility
standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).

Requirements

What you bring

• 5+ years designing and developing digital learning, end to end
• Strong instructional design skills and working knowledge of frameworks and pedagogies such as
ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s taxonomy, Gagné’s Nine Events, Merrill’s Principles and adult learning
theory
• Advanced, hands-on skills in Articulate Storyline and Rise, with a portfolio to show
• Excellent learning content writing: clear, concise and suited to the audience
• Demonstrable, regular use of Claude or other LLMs and AI tools to speed up learning production,
with examples of how you kept quality high
• Confidence working directly with subject matter experts and customers, including running
workshops and handling feedback
• Ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once

Nice to have
• Experience with other authoring tools, such as Adobe Captivate, iSpring, Evolve or Lectora
• Video, audio and graphics skills, including AI-assisted media tools
• Experience designing for technical or IT audiences
• Knowledge of SCORM, xAPI and common LMS platforms
• Experience building blended programs with instructor-led training and labs

How we will measure success
• First 90 days: Delivered your first modules end to end, with an AI-assisted workflow in place for
at least one stage of production.
• By six months: Leading customer projects directly, with measurably shorter build times and
quality that holds up in review.
• By twelve months: A shared library of templates, prompts and AI workflows in team use, and
strong learner and customer feedback.

Benefits

What you will get

• A long-term place in an established team, not one-off project work
• Varied work across technical topics, customers and blended programs
• Time and support to build real AI-driven ways of working
• Access to global training and certifications, including AI courses (i.e AWS, ITIL etc)
• Salary depends on current package & experience (within a realistic range TBD with recruiter)
