Job description

Job Description Summary

The Wind Services Hub Leader is accountable for the safe, reliable and commercially disciplined operation and maintenance of multiple GE Vernova wind farms within an assigned Australian hub.

Reporting to the Services Director, the role provides leadership, governance and operational oversight to Site Managers and their teams to deliver turbine availability, maintenance execution, customer outcomes and contractual performance.

The Hub Leader establishes consistent operating standards across sites, ensures effective deployment of people, contractors, materials and specialist support, and develops accountable site leadership.

The role acts as an escalation point for significant operational, safety, people and customer matters and, where required, directly supports the resolution of complex issues while maintaining clear site-level ownership.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Leadership

  • Champion a visible safety-first culture across all assigned sites through leadership engagement, site visits, GENBA walks, safety conversations and verification of critical controls.
  • Ensure Site Managers implement and monitor GE Vernova Life Saving Rules, EHS requirements, risk assessments, SWMS/JSA, LOTO, permit systems, working-at-heights and emergency response arrangements.
  • Oversee timely reporting, escalation, investigation and closure of incidents, near misses, hazards, audit findings and corrective actions; verify that lessons learned are embedded across the hub.
  • Ensure site activities comply with applicable Australian work health and safety, electrical safety, environmental and other regulatory requirements, with appropriately qualified and authorised persons performing controlled work.
  • Exercise and reinforce Stop Work Authority; address unsafe practices and resourcing or fatigue risks promptly and escalate material risks through the required governance channels.

Multi-Site Operations & Turbine Performance

  • Provide governance and direction for the operation and maintenance of assigned wind farms, holding Site Managers accountable for safe execution, turbine availability, reliability and customer commitments.
  • Implement structured daily and weekly operating reviews, visual performance management, action tracking and timely escalation of emerging risks or performance gaps.
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, statutory inspections, major component works, retrofit campaigns and planned outages, ensuring work is appropriately sequenced and completed to quality requirements.
  • Ensure resource, competency, tooling, equipment, spare-parts and contractor plans support maintenance milestones and timely response to breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with engineering, field performance management, technical support and remote operations teams to remove barriers, resolve recurring failures and improve asset performance.
  • Monitor work-order quality, maintenance records, technical documentation and operational data integrity; drive action on overdue or repeat work and non-conformances.
  • People Leadership & Workforce Capability
  • Lead, coach and develop Site Managers, establishing clear accountabilities, performance objectives, regular one-to-ones and development plans.
  • Ensure Site Managers provide effective day-to-day direction, supervision and development to Lead Technicians, technicians and contractors, consistent with their delegated responsibilities.
  • Oversee hub workforce planning, succession, recruitment needs, training and competency compliance, authorised roles and capability gaps.
  • Manage employee performance, conduct, engagement and workplace issues in partnership with Human Resources and in accordance with company processes and Australian employment obligations.
  • Promote collaboration, inclusion, knowledge sharing and consistent leadership practices across geographically dispersed teams.
  • Customer & Contractual Management
  • Understand and oversee delivery against applicable full-service agreements, scopes of work, service-level requirements and site-specific operational commitments.
  • Partner closely with Customer Performance Managers and commercial stakeholders to maintain a clear picture of operating performance, customer sentiment, emerging risks and agreed recovery actions.
  • Lead or support escalation and resolution of significant customer concerns, operational disputes and complex contractual matters within delegated authority; refer legal or commercial decisions to authorised functions.
  • Ensure accurate, timely operational inputs to contractual reporting, customer reviews, forecasts and corrective action plans.

Financial & Resource Accountability

  • Own hub-level operational performance against approved budgets, cost targets and applicable financial KPIs, including labour, overtime, travel, contractors, tooling and maintenance costs.
  • Anticipate cost exposure from downtime, unplanned work, contractual performance and resource constraints; escalate risks early with clear mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Ensure effective resource allocation and appropriate approval controls for overtime, on-call arrangements, procurement, contractor engagement and expenditure.
  • Identify productivity, standardisation and cost-improvement opportunities without compromising safety, quality or contractual obligations.
  • Operational Governance & Continuous Improvement
  • Standardise practical planning, escalation, communication, audit and performance-review routines across sites while recognising site-specific regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Drive root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, process improvement and disciplined closure of operational issues.
  • Partner with EHS, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality and Legal to resolve cross-functional risks and implement organisational initiatives.
  • Provide concise, evidence-based reporting to the Services Director on safety, availability, maintenance, customer matters, people, financial performance and key risks.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in wind farm operations and maintenance, power generation, utilities, industrial field services or a comparable asset-intensive environment.
  • Proven ability to lead Site Managers or multi-disciplinary operational teams across multiple sites, including contractor management and performance accountability.
  • Strong working knowledge of turbine or comparable electromechanical asset maintenance, reliability, troubleshooting and operational planning.
  • Demonstrated capability in EHS leadership, risk management, operational governance and working within Australian regulatory and industrial frameworks.
  • Commercial acumen, including budget management, resource planning, KPI delivery and understanding of service-contract obligations.
  • Strong communication, coaching, stakeholder management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Competence using enterprise maintenance, reporting and standard business applications.
  • Current valid driver licence, Australian working rights and willingness and ability to travel regularly across assigned locations.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, operations, business or a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of technical qualifications and operational leadership experience.
  • Experience managing multiple wind farms or geographically dispersed renewable energy service operations.
  • Electrical or mechanical trade background, wind-industry training, or relevant technical certification.
  • Experience implementing lean management, daily management systems, continuous improvement, ISO, 5S or similar methodologies.
  • Experience with major component programs, high-voltage operating environments, crane and rigging interfaces and complex maintenance campaigns.

Working Conditions

  • Multi-site role involving frequent visits to operational wind farms, including rural and remote locations, with regular travel and occasional overnight stays.
  • Exposure to operational industrial environments and variable weather conditions during site visits; compliance with site induction, PPE and fitness-for-work requirements is mandatory.
  • Availability may be required outside ordinary business hours to manage significant incidents, escalations or urgent operational matters, in accordance with applicable employment arrangements and company policies.

As GE Vernova is a global organization, working across different time zones, and monitoring, reading and responding to contact outside normal working hours can be expected.
