Job description

Overview:

AskSage (BigBear.ai company) is seeking a The Director of Finance & Business Operations is the finance and business-operations partner to the business unit leader. The role owns forecasting and close, quote-to-cash, revenue operations and pricing governance, spend and procurement governance, and the controls and reporting that connect the business unit to BigBear.ai Finance & Accounting. The role reports to the EVP, GenAI Platforms & Products, and leads a Business Operations Analyst and a Finance Operations Analyst. This role is remote; National Capital Region highly preferred.

We are looking for a leader who has run the numbers for a P&L inside a federal or defense contractor and can do the same for a defense-technology product business: set the forecast cadence, govern pricing and spend, represent the business unit to corporate Finance, and stay close enough to the billing, pipeline, and contract data to catch what the numbers are hiding. The business combines subscription and usage-based consumption economics with government contracting — ARR and token consumption on one side, contract vehicles, resellers, and public-company close discipline on the other — and the Director must be comfortable where they meet. Auditability, data handling, and government compliance expectations are part of everyday delivery.

What you will do:
  • Lead the finance function and partner the business. Own planning, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis for the business unit; act as finance and business-operations partner to the EVP and the functional leaders on P&L, headcount, and investment decisions; serve as the primary point of contact for BigBear.ai Finance & Accounting.
  • Build and lead the team. Manage the Business Operations Analyst and the Finance Operations Analyst: set priorities, assign ownership across forecasting, billing, procurement, and reporting, review work product, develop capability, and ensure coverage and continuity across the monthly cycle.
  • Own forecasting and close. Run the monthly and quarterly forecast and the annual budget; bridge Sales pipeline to bookings, billings, and recognized revenue; own headcount, spend, and margin planning; deliver close enablement and month-end support aligned to BigBear.ai close and control requirements; explain variances with drivers, not just deltas.
  • Own quote-to-cash. Direct customer billing, contract setup, onboarding readiness, usage billing, collections, and cash application across the billing platform and the accounting system; manage invoicing through resellers, contract vehicles, and government payment portals; reconcile billing to the general ledger and ensure revenue-recognition accuracy.
  • Own revenue operations and pricing governance. Run contract workflows from quote through execution; own pricing governance — price lists, discount guardrails, and quote structures — within which Sales owns deal terms; provide the financial analysis behind pricing, packaging, and deal decisions, and execute pricing and packaging changes driven by business unit leadership.
  • Own business unit procurement and spend. Own what the business unit buys — cloud and model consumption, software and data subscriptions, contractors, and events — against plan: vendor selection and onboarding, purchase requests, renewals, and spend approvals, executed through BigBear.ai's purchasing and accounts-payable processes; own cloud-cost visibility and FinOps reporting jointly with the Operations team.
  • Own controls and documentation for business unit processes. Document billing, forecasting, spend, and close processes end to end; maintain segregation of duties, approval controls, and audit-ready evidence for processes the business unit owns; keep billing data tax-ready and support BigBear.ai Finance & Accounting on sales-tax compliance; handle customer and billing records in line with FedRAMP and DoD impact-level obligations; produce leadership reporting and decision support.
  • Own contract and vehicle economics. Model the economics of GSA and other contract vehicles, reseller arrangements, funding and period-of-performance structures, and indirect-rate and cost-principle (FAR/DFARS) considerations on the government paper the business sells through; support pricing and proposal responses with Sales and Contracts.
  • Integrate with corporate Finance. Deliver close inputs on the corporate calendar, including revenue-recognition support for subscription and usage-based arrangements, accruals, deferred revenue, and intercompany; support consolidation and external audit for the business unit, and support the business unit's SOX 404(b) control owners — the change-control board and release leads — with financial-process evidence.
  • Own finance systems and data integrity. Own the business unit's finance systems and the data flows between billing, CRM, and accounting; define and maintain one reconciled set of revenue and SaaS metrics — ARR, bookings, retention, consumption — for leadership and corporate; build the dashboards leadership relies on; apply Ask Sage and other AI-assisted tooling to analysis and reconciliation while retaining human review over anything that reaches the ledger or leadership.
  • Communicate the financial position. Present forecast, results, risks, and assumptions to business unit and corporate leadership in clear, decision-ready form; distinguish booked, in-process, and projected figures explicitly.
  • Raise the standard of existing processes. Take ownership of current processes, document them, identify where they are manual or fragile, and lead the improvements, using Ask Sage and the business unit's own AI tooling to automate and enhance them, prioritizing by risk to reporting accuracy and cash.

How this role works across the business unit:

This role owns quote-to-cash, billing, revenue recognition, pricing governance, and business unit procurement and spend. It works with Sales on deal terms within pricing guardrails, with the Operations team on cloud-cost visibility, and with BigBear.ai Finance & Accounting on close, tax, and controls. Pricing and packaging initiatives are set by business unit leadership; this role provides the analysis behind them and executes the changes.

What you need to have:
  • Ten or more years of progressive finance experience, including leadership of finance or business operations for a business unit, program portfolio, or product line in a federal or defense contractor or a federal-facing technology company, with at least three years directly managing analysts.
  • Demonstrated ownership of forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis for a P&L, including pipeline-to-revenue bridging with a sales or capture organization.
  • Ownership of order-to-cash and billing operations — invoicing, collections, cash application, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal contracting, including contract vehicles, resellers, government invoicing and payment cycles, and FAR/DFARS cost principles.
  • Experience with procurement and vendor management and with monthly close, consolidation, and audit support in a public-company environment.
  • Advanced financial modeling in Excel and the ability to work directly with data from billing, CRM, and accounting systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication: explaining results, uncertainty, and risk to executive, technical, and nontechnical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
What we'd like you to have:
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA.
  • Experience leading finance for an acquired company or business unit inside a larger public company, including post-acquisition integration of finance processes and systems.
  • Subscription or consumption-priced product experience, including ARR, retention, and usage-based revenue models, and ASC 606 revenue recognition for subscription and usage-based arrangements.
  • Experience with Unanet or a comparable project-based ERP, and with Stripe or a comparable subscription-billing platform.
  • Experience with government invoicing systems and with billing in FedRAMP or DoD impact-level environments.
  • Cloud-cost management (FinOps) experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP consumption.
  • SQL or BI tooling (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for reporting and reconciliation.
  • Experience applying generative AI tools to finance analysis, reconciliation, or process automation.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance; active clearance a plus.
