Job description

Software Release Engineering Manager

Remote | United States
Compensation: $140,000–$150,000
Healthcare Technology

Recruit22 is partnering with a leading healthcare organization seeking a Software Release Engineering Manager to build and mature its software release engineering capabilities.

This is initially a hands-on individual contributor role, ideal for a senior technical professional who can own release engineering, improve CI/CD and DevOps practices, and establish scalable software delivery standards. As the function evolves, the role may grow into broader technical and team leadership responsibilities.

This position is remote within the United States. Some weekend availability will be required to support scheduled production releases. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

What You'll Do

  • Own and continuously improve the software release lifecycle across enterprise applications and platforms.
  • Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Establish standards for release management, branching, versioning, artifact management, and environment promotion.
  • Partner with Software Engineering, QA, Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, and Architecture teams.
  • Automate build, testing, deployment, configuration, and release processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex deployment and production issues and lead root-cause analysis.
  • Improve monitoring, observability, rollback capabilities, and production reliability.
  • Advance DevSecOps practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Serve as the hands-on technical SME for release engineering.
  • Support scheduled production releases, including some weekend releases as needed.
  • Help establish the foundation for a scalable release engineering function.

AI & Engineering Automation

This role will also help identify practical opportunities to incorporate AI into the software development and release lifecycle, including:

  • AI-assisted software development and code review
  • Automated testing and test generation
  • CI/CD optimization
  • Release and technical documentation
  • Production troubleshooting and log analysis
  • Root-cause and incident analysis
  • Developer productivity and engineering automation

Experience or exposure to GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI, generative AI, LLMs, or similar AI-enabled engineering tools is highly desirable.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Release Engineering, Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, SRE, or related areas.
  • Strong hands-on experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Git, branching strategies, deployment automation, automated testing, and release orchestration.
  • Cloud engineering experience, preferably within Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and modern deployment practices.
  • Strong understanding of application monitoring and observability.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production-support skills.
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives and influence teams without direct authority.
  • Comfortable supporting occasional weekend production releases.

Nice to Have

  • Healthcare, health-tech, or other regulated-industry experience.
  • GitHub Actions and GitHub Copilot experience.
  • Experience with generative AI or AI-assisted software development.
  • Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Terraform or Bicep experience.
  • DevSecOps and software supply-chain security knowledge.
  • Experience moving organizations from manual release processes toward highly automated software delivery.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for a builder, not simply a release coordinator.

You should be comfortable getting hands-on with pipelines, deployments, automation, cloud environments, and troubleshooting while also having the experience to define standards and influence how software is delivered across an enterprise environment.

This is not a traditional project-oriented Release Manager role. Strong technical engineering experience is essential.

Compensation & Employment Details

  • Base Salary: $140,000–$150,000
  • Location: Remote within the United States
  • Schedule: Standard business hours with some weekend production releases
  • Work Authorization: No visa sponsorship is available

About Recruit22

Recruit22 specializes in technology and executive search, connecting organizations with hard-to-find technology professionals who can make an immediate impact.

What I changed: I moved the four candidate-screening items up front: remote U.S., $140K–$150K, some weekend releases, and no sponsorship. That should reduce unqualified applications while keeping the posting attractive to senior DevOps/release engineering talent.
