Job description

Looking for Philippines-based candidates

Job Role: Bookkeeper

Compensation range: $1,600 AUD - $2,200 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: An Australian landscape construction company that designs and builds creative, high-end outdoor play spaces.

Role Overview: We’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to take ownership of our day-to-day finance function, with weekly payroll at its heart. You’ll keep our books accurate, our people paid correctly and on time, and our compliance obligations met.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll & Timesheets

  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for our site and office teams.
  • Review and process timesheets from ClockShark, our geolocation clock-in/clock-out system.
  • Interpret and apply Modern Awards, working alongside our People & Culture advisor.
  • Manage leave, superannuation and paid parental leave, including government payments.
  • Respond promptly and clearly to team members’ pay questions.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS, and manage PAYG withholding.
  • Manage payroll tax and WorkCover obligations.
  • Keep all compliance reporting accurate, up to date and aligned with Australian requirements.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process supplier bills and expenses so everything is paid on time.
  • Issue client invoices promptly and accurately.
  • Follow up overdue accounts and manage debtors professionally.

Reconciliation & Cash Flow

  • Complete regular bank and account reconciliations in Xero.
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow projections to support planning.
  • Build and update reports in Excel for the CFO and directors.

Financial Administration

  • Maintain organised, well-documented financial records.
  • Complete data entry with a high level of accuracy.
  • Support the CFO and Finance Officer with ad hoc finance tasks.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of bookkeeping experience with Australian businesses.
  • Advanced Xero skills across payroll, reconciliations, AP and AR.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll, Modern Awards, superannuation and tax compliance.
  • Confident Excel skills for reporting and cash flow work.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate data entry.
  • Clear, professional written and spoken English.
  • A self-directed approach, with the ability to manage your workload independently.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in construction, trades or landscaping.
  • Experience with ClockShark or another geolocation-based timesheet system.
  • Familiarity with HappyHR or another HRIS that integrates with Xero.
  • A quick learner who picks up new systems with ease.

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.

To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile (clearly marked as “Independent Contractor”)

Apply once. Then go straight to the hiring manager.

After you apply, unlock the direct contact details of the people who actually make the call. A quick follow-up makes you 5x more likely to land an interview.
