Proximity Learning partners with districts to solve teacher vacancies by livestreaming certified teachers, from all over the country, into physical classrooms for all subjects. Having already served over 150 districts and 45,000 students, Proximity Learning is committed to connecting all learners with the expert teachers they deserve. Proximity Learning facilitates district course subject needs by providing live, real-time, teacher-led instruction through video conferencing software, ensuring students do not miss out on valuable math, world language, SPED, science, or elective subjects. Each student is given access to instruction through a laptop where they can view and interact with their teacher; students and instructors communicate with each other in real-time via webcam and via text-chat. Proximity Learning teachers are the most important part of closely approximating the experience of a traditional brick and mortar classroom setting - we value those with a passion for teaching, the ability to be autonomous, and a strong drive to connect a diverse group of students across the United States with the quality teachers they deserve. Our teachers work from home and get paid a competitive salary based on experience. Additionally, we offer growth opportunities and bonuses based on student success. If that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you about our current open positions. Avoid scams! If you're interested in joining PLI, we will always ask you to apply through our applicant dashboard in PLI Connect! All candidates can apply through our applicant dashboard at https://proxlearn.pliconnect.com/. Job description

Position Summary

At Proximity Learning, we believe every student deserves access to exceptional literacy instruction and academic support, no matter where they learn. As a Virtual Reading Specialist / Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), you will deliver comprehensive, research-based reading intervention and specialized support to students in a fully remote environment, meeting them where they are and making a real difference in their academic growth, decoding skills, and reading confidence. You will work side by side with special education teams, teachers, and families through the power of virtual platforms while bringing evidence-based practices and genuine care to every student you serve. If you are passionate about breaking down barriers to learning and want to do meaningful work from anywhere, this role was made for you.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver live, interactive one-on-one virtual reading intervention sessions tailored to student-specific learning goals and IEP objectives.
  • Utilize explicit, systematic, structured, and multi-sensory teaching strategies (such as Orton-Gillingham or CALT methods) to address decoding, encoding, fluency, and reading comprehension.
  • Conduct informal reading assessments and progress monitoring via telehealth-compatible platforms and tools to evaluate literacy growth.
  • Write clear, thorough, and compliant progress reports within required district and state timelines. Participate in virtual IEP, 504, and eligibility meetings as part of the multidisciplinary team, presenting literacy findings and recommendations to families and educators as needed.
  • Develop and monitor individual intervention plans in direct collaboration with classroom teachers and special education support staff.
  • Consult with teachers, parents/guardians, and administrators on effective strategies to support student literacy in the virtual classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable state special education regulations.
  • Collaborate with the ESS/PLI team and district partners to ensure continuity of services and smooth case management. Stay current on best practices in structured literacy, telehealth service delivery, and applicable state/federal regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Reading Education, or related field from an accredited program.
  • Valid state credential/license as a Reading Specialist or Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) credential in New Mexico.
  • Strong working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and state-specific special education regulations.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional intervention and progress reports.
  • Comfort and proficiency with virtual platforms (video conferencing, electronic IEP systems, digital reading tools).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage student caseloads and competing deadlines efficiently.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a private, confidential workspace for telehealth and instructional services.

Work Environment & Technology

This is a fully remote position. Employees must provide their own dedicated workspace that ensures privacy and confidentiality for student assessments and counseling sessions. PLI provides access to required platforms, assessment licenses, and technical support. Standard working hours align with the school day(s) of assigned district(s), with occasional flexibility required for IEP meetings or family consultations outside standard hours.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and credentials.
  • Ongoing professional development and support from a collaborative clinical team.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students across multiple districts and communities.

Compensation: $60 per hour
