Job description

Only One runs campaigns that change minds and shape policy. Our international team of experts specializes in strategic communications, movement building, and public advocacy to drive impactful ocean and climate policy worldwide. Our philanthropically funded work focuses on supporting and amplifying the efforts of partners — both globally and in key regions — to restore ocean health and unlock the ocean’s potential as a climate solution.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Campaign Director, Asia-Pacific to lead Only One’s campaigning in the region. This is a chance to shape our work there from an early stage, setting the direction and building something lasting.

The Asia-Pacific is central to the future of ocean protection. Four of the world’s five largest distant-water fishing fleets are based there, and its governments will play a key role in implementing the High Seas Treaty.

We’ve formed early partnerships in South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and the Pacific Islands, and you will develop these into a full regional program. Our approach is collaborative: we work alongside the organizations, scientists, and communities already leading change across the Asia-Pacific, helping to strengthen what they do.

What You’ll Do

Regional strategy and campaign leadership

  • Work with Only One’s leadership to define our Asia-Pacific priorities: the countries, policy opportunities, and campaigns where we can have the greatest impact.
  • Map the political landscape in each priority country: key decision-makers, who influences them, and where the openings are.
  • Develop and lead campaigns that combine political engagement, strategic communications, and public mobilization to deliver measurable change.

Partnerships and representation

  • Identify the core partners to build our regional work around, from civil society organizations and scientists to community leaders and regional coalitions.
  • Build partnerships around shared objectives, following partners’ lead where they are best placed and making sure our contribution strengthens their work.
  • Represent Only One with regional institutions and at international forums, working with our global team.

Regional team and operations

  • Build and manage a regional team of staff, consultants, agencies, and advisers, assessing the government affairs and communications needs in each priority country.
  • Oversee regional plans, budgets, and resources.
  • Work closely with Only One’s global campaigns, communications, marketing, and creative teams to deliver coordinated work.

Fundraising and regional growth

  • Build relationships with philanthropic funders and find opportunities to grow support for ocean protection across the region.
  • Contribute to regional fundraising, including proposals and reports.

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of experience in campaigning, advocacy, or policy, with a track record of delivering measurable policy or industry change.
  • Experience developing and leading campaigns that combine political engagement, strategic communications, and public mobilization.
  • Deep knowledge of the political landscape in the Asia-Pacific, with direct experience working in several countries in the region.
  • Strong networks across civil society, government, and the ocean or environmental sector.
  • A proven ability to build trust within partnerships and coalitions, and to work across lines of difference.
  • Experience managing teams and budgets across countries.
  • Experience in philanthropic fundraising, or knowledge of fisheries, ocean governance, or climate policy, is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in one or more regional languages is an advantage.
  • Based in the Asia-Pacific and willing to travel and work across time zones.

How You Show Up

You design and drive campaign strategy.
You know that winning policy change takes timing, relationships, pressure, and coordination.

You understand power and influence.
You read political systems quickly across very different countries, and you know who matters and what will move them.

You build from the ground up.
You’re comfortable shaping a program that doesn’t have much structure yet and putting in place what it needs to last.

You’re a trusted partner.
You know when to lead and when to support, and you’re generous with credit.

You’re a good teammate.
You bring humor, humility, and kindness to your work, including when things move fast.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary: $145,000–$170,000 USD, based on experience
  • Fully remote working, with a global team and flexible hours
  • Generous paid time off, plus organization-wide winter and summer breaks
  • Health, dental and vision coverage, or a local equivalent depending on your location
  • An annual professional development budget
  • An annual full-team retreat
  • A dynamic, inclusive work environment that fosters growth, creativity, and collaboration
