Job description

Job Summary Over the past year we've built an internal data platform on Microsoft Azure. It brings data from our PSA, finance, HR, CRM and customer feedback systems into one lakehouse. That lakehouse feeds a live data portal at data.compassmsp.com with service delivery, profitability, retention, TAM, vCIO and operations dashboards, and it's where our internal reporting is heading.

We're looking for a Data & Analytics Engineer to help run and extend the platform, and to lead the consolidation of our reporting onto it. A major focus for the first 12 to 18 months is retiring our legacy SQL Server reporting environment and then Power BI. That means moving every active report onto the lakehouse and the data portal, so the business works from one governed source of truth.

Alongside that, the role is hands-on across the whole data path. You'll keep pipelines healthy, model data, build reports people trust, help build internal apps on the platform, and help add an AI layer so people can ask questions of the data in plain language. You'll work closely with the Director of Data & Analytics and with stakeholders in Service Delivery, Finance, Sales, Client Success and Leadership.

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong SQL, including T-SQL. You can read and refactor stored procedures, views and SQL Agent jobs.
  • Strong Python for data work, with experience in DuckDB, Spark, pandas or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud data platform, ideally Azure, and with Delta Lake or similar table formats.
  • Solid data modeling: dimensional models, medallion architecture, slowly changing dimensions and conformed metrics.
  • Experience building ELT pipelines from REST APIs and SaaS systems.
  • A track record of migrating reports or data workloads between platforms, with a disciplined reconciliation and sign-off process.
  • Experience building reports and dashboards for business users, and turning loose questions into precise metrics.
  • Comfortable with Git, pull requests and code review.
  • The instinct to reconcile a number before you trust it.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in an MSP or IT services business, or with ConnectWise, Sage Intacct or HiBob data.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Gong, Cognism or HubSpot, as an admin or as a data source.
  • Power BI depth: DAX, semantic models, the REST and XMLA APIs and usage metrics. You'll need to understand it well to replace it.
  • Experience decommissioning legacy systems, including finding dependencies, managing stakeholders and archiving.
  • Microsoft Fabric, Azure Container Apps or Docker.
  • Web development (JavaScript, HTML and CSS) and Azure Static Web Apps or App Service.
  • Data quality and observability tooling, such as dbt tests, Great Expectations or custom checks.
  • Building with LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation or semantic layers.
  • CI/CD with GitHub Actions.

  • 60% Backend / 30% Front-end / 10% Business Systems as needed
  • Data platform engineering
  • Migration & Sunsetting
  • Data health reporting
  • Reporting, internal apps & AI

NOTE: We actively encourage AI-assisted development. Our team uses AI coding assistants every day to write and review code, explore data, draft documentation and get work out the door faster. That means moving faster with them, checking what they produce, and taking ownership of the quality and correctness of everything that ships.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary
  • Quarterly Bonuses
  • Progressive PTO
  • Medical/Dental/Vision/Life/Disability coverages available
  • 401k with company match
  • Career Development and Coaching
