Job description

Role: Instructor

Location: Remote / virtual with potential for engagements across Europe, Asia and United States

Commitment: Upto 2-3 days per week

Company Overview

The world is changing faster than ever.  The fourth industrial revolution has seen an exponential growth in data utilisation.  Keeping pace in an ever-changing landscape is quickly becoming the defining characteristic of both successful companies and individuals.  It is with this in mind that Afterskills was founded in 2017 to fill the growing demand from both employers and individuals to upskill their technical, critical, and creative thinking skillsets. Founded by a University of Cambridge PhD, ex-BCGer and ex-Amazonian with a passion for sharing knowledge, we take learning seriously – both internally and externally – as knowledge is one of the most valuable assets any business or person can possess.

Afterskills is transforming the professional development landscape by combining in-demand skills training and enablement alongside services such as skills gap analysis, learning outcome assessments and content development. We currently work with a myriad of clients across a number of sectors, from large corporates to private equity portfolio companies to world class business schools.  The sheer breadth of customers Afterskills works with – combined with triple digit growth over the past three years – highlights the need for these services and products in the market.

Afterskills' growth has continued to accelerate throughout COVID due to most companies’ need to rapidly change their ways-of-working.  This is in direct response to the shifting workplace environment brought on by the pandemic where the need for a data literate workforce is quickly becoming a key competitive advantage.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be the premier partner for businesses and individuals looking to exploit the large asymmetry in supply and demand for data literate individuals with business acumen. We understand the most important asset any business has is its people, and companies that invest in their people will always have an advantage over their competitors.  By solidifying our position in this space, we help companies position learning and development initiatives as a core competitive advantage. Additionally, we support individuals looking to bolster their professional toolkit by adding the most in-demand skillsets in the job market.

Always wanting to practice what we preach, our business is continually evolving to learn, develop and grow our own skillsets.  Rather than simply teaching technical skills, we want to learn what challenges companies are facing in the data and analytics space.  By staying informed about the latest developments across various industries, we strive to attain invaluable knowledge and use cases that we then parlay into best-in-class upskilling and reskilling courses.  In doing so, we aspire to help companies achieve their business objectives through in-person and virtual classroom programs and / or via our self-paced, interactive learning platform.

Job Description

We are looking for new Instructors to join us in helping meet demand as our company enters its next phase of growth. You’ll start by shadowing one of our Lead Instructors to gain an understanding of our unique teaching style.  Next, you’ll be invited to lecture alongside one of our Lead Instructors gaining hands-on experience lecturing as some of the world’s premiere companies and business schools.  You’ll quickly become an expert in topics such as: Applied Business Statistics & Probability, Excel Analytics, Data Storytelling and more! And as part of our commitment to your own personal development, you will receive extensive training and support on our curriculums making you an expert in a number of highly sought-after skills.

As an Instructor you will gain an in-depth knowledge on how to translate business problems in to necessary technical requirements to surface data-driven business recommendations. While doing so, you will materially improve you public speaking skills and confidence around data and analytics.

The preferred skills for those applying for this role include a background in consulting / investment banking and data analytics, although neither is a requirement.  The delivery schedule for our courses will be virtual for the foreseeable future and based primarily in and around London when physical deliveries become appropriate. We are happy to be flexible around school and work schedules, although a minimum commitment is required. We are also offering a competitive day rate and if there’s a good fit, there is potential to move into a full-time role.

Preferred Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and strong academic record; advanced graduate degree (e.g., Quantitative Masters, MBA, PhD, etc.) preferred.
  • Familiarity with data analytics methodologies and tools including but not limited to: basic statistics and probability (t-tests, confidence intervals, etc.), Machine Learning (Supervised and Unsupervised Learning), SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python, Alteryx, ChatGPT, etc.

  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant and general comfort with public speaking engagements a plus

About you

  • Entrepreneurial mind-set: Be scrappy! You’re someone that doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves and getting into the detail, execution and delivery.
  • Great communicator: You’re able to communicate to a wide audience, from senior executives to business associates and can influence these audiences effectively both orally and written.
  • Thirst for knowledge: You have a mindset that ‘every day is a school day’ and the thought of learning something new every day energizes you.
  • Ambitious: You’re passionate about big goals and lofty aspirations and are excited by challenges in both your personal and professional life.
  • Bias for action: You not only enjoy but gravitate towards challenges where the path to a solution is ambiguous as you would rather blaze your own trail than follow a well-trodden path.
