POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Senior Manager, Procurement

Location: Remote / Hybrid (Full Time)

Reports To: Senior Director of Supply Chain

Status: Full Time

Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a strategic and analytical Senior Manager of Procurement to lead our end-to-end sourcing, supplier ecosystems, and commercialization operations within the CPG hair care category. In this role, you will own raw material and packaging categories, drive aggressive margin expansion, and partner cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, and Operations to commercialize high-growth product pipelines. The ideal candidate brings deep domain expertise in personal care contract manufacturing, technical formulation components, and robust operational governance from PO issuance to ERP data architecture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Vendor Lifecycle Management

  • Establish and execute comprehensive supplier evaluation scorecards, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and performance metrics across suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMOs), packaging vendors, and to drive accountability and operational excellence.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks by performing financial, quality, and operational health checks on key component suppliers and co-packers, maintaining robust dual-sourcing and contingency plans.
  • Negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Quality Management Agreements (QMAs), and pricing terms in close collaboration with legal, finance, and technical teams.

Strategic Sourcing & COGS Optimization

  • Develop and execute multi-year category strategies covering hair care raw materials (surfactants, active ingredients, botanical extracts), custom/stock primary packaging (bottles, pumps, tubes, jars), secondary packaging, and external contract manufacturing services (liquids, hot-fills, aerosols).
  • Conduct competitive RFPs, global market analyses, and benchmark costing (toll manufacturing vs. turnkey co-packing models) to optimize total cost of ownership
  • Lead continuous cost-reduction initiatives through alternate packaging, alternative ingredient sourcing, and CMO throughput/yield optimization.
  • Model and track savings pipelines across raw materials, packaging, and manufacturing conversion costs, balancing margin targets with strict brand and quality standards.
  • Partner with R&D and sustainability leads to source post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins, FSC-certified paper, clean-beauty compliant ingredients, and environmentally responsible co-manufacturing facilities.
  • Track, maintain, and audit capital tooling investments (injection molds, blow molds, custom line equipment) hosted at supplier and co-packer facilities.

NPD Project Management & Commercialization

  • Own the procurement and manufacturing workstreams for New Product Development (NPD), managing the seamless transition of formulas and packaging from lab scale to CMO pilot trials and full-scale commercial production runs.
  • Partner with R&D, Brand Marketing, and co-packer engineering teams to resolve technical transfer challenges, manage long-lead components, and guarantee on-time commercial launches.
  • Drive daily cross-functional project timelines, set sample review milestones, and coordinate testing schedules between R&D, Quality, brand teams, and external co-packers.

Purchase Order Management & Procure-to-Pay (P2P)

  • Oversee day-to-day procurement operations, including issuing and managing purchase orders for raw ingredients, packaging components, and CMO finished good production runs in accordance with approval matrices.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable and logistics to manage consigned inventory, turnkey billings, and resolve 3-way invoice matching discrepancies efficiently.

Item Master & Bill of Materials (BOM) Structure

  • Govern ERP data integrity by managing SKU setups, attribute configurations, vendor item numbers, and multi-level BOM structures
  • Ensure accurate cost roll-ups, standard cost updates, and smooth MRP (Material Requirements Planning) execution across internal systems and external manufacturing partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Experience: 7–10 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
  • Required Industry Experience: Direct sourcing experience within Beauty, Personal Care, or specifically Hair Care (shampoos, conditioners, styling formulations, treatments).
  • Required Functional Experience: Demonstrated expertise managing contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs/CDMOs), leading cross-functional NPD commercialization, and structuring complex supplier contracts.
  • Required Systems & Tools: Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite preferred) and strong data analysis capabilities (Advanced Excel / SQL).
  • Core Competencies & Skills:
    • Technical literacy in cosmetic chemistry, raw material grade specifications, and packaging mechanics (pumps, dispensers, closures), preferred.
    • High-level negotiation, contract drafting, and financial modeling skills.
    • Exceptional project management capability with acute attention to detail in BOM structures and item master setups.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Chemistry, Materials Science, or packaging engineering preferred

Certifications: CPSM, CSCP, or APICS certification is strongly preferred.
