Job description

Patient Recruitment & Prescreening Specialist – Clinical Research

Location: Remote

Position Overview

UniTriTeam is seeking an experienced Patient Recruitment & Prescreening Specialist to support a clinical research site. This individual will play a key role in supporting patient enrollment for multiple clinical trials, including studies focused on flu vaccines, migraine, obesity with diabetes, and cardiology.

The ideal candidate has experience in clinical research patient recruitment and is comfortable engaging prospective participants by phone, conducting protocol-specific prescreening, documenting patient information accurately, and helping move qualified candidates through the recruitment process. Candidates with experience in cardiology or cardiovascular clinical research, particularly those familiar with cardiac patients or cardiovascular studies, are strongly preferred.

This is a high-volume, patient-facing role requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, persistence, and the ability to effectively manage multiple active studies and patient pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outbound and inbound calls with prospective clinical trial participants.
  • Perform protocol-specific patient prescreening to assess initial study eligibility.
  • Review patient responses against study inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Educate prospective participants on study opportunities and explain next steps in clear, patient-friendly language.
  • Schedule qualified participants for site visits, screenings, or additional follow-up as appropriate.
  • Conduct timely follow-up with interested patients who have not yet scheduled or completed the next step.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, prescreening results, participant disposition, and follow-up activities.
  • Manage patient recruitment pipelines across multiple concurrent clinical trials.
  • Work leads generated through recruitment partners, databases, and site recruitment initiatives.
  • Utilize Trial Partners, Clinical Connections, RealTime CTMS/site database, and sponsor-assigned recruitment portals as part of the recruitment and patient tracking workflow.
  • Identify common reasons for screen failures, patient drop-off, or difficulty reaching candidates, and communicate trends to site leadership.
  • Partner closely with the site team to support enrollment goals and prioritize studies based on recruitment needs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow applicable HIPAA, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), site SOPs, and clinical research requirements.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in clinical research patient recruitment, prescreening, patient engagement, or a similar clinical research role is strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting telephone-based patient prescreening and reviewing study eligibility criteria.
  • Strong understanding of the clinical trial recruitment and enrollment process.
  • Experience in cardiology or cardiovascular clinical research is strongly preferred.
  • Experience recruiting, prescreening, or coordinating patients for cardiology studies is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with cardiovascular conditions, cardiac patient populations, or cardiology-related clinical trial protocols is a plus.
  • Experience recruiting for vaccine, migraine, obesity, diabetes, or metabolic studies is preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of patient outreach and follow-up activities.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly with prospective participants.
  • Highly organized, with strong documentation and follow-through skills.
  • Comfortable working across multiple studies with different eligibility requirements and recruitment priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining closely aligned with the site team.
  • Experience with RealTime CTMS is preferred.
  • Experience with Trial Partners and/or Clinical Connections is a plus.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means maintaining consistent and timely patient outreach, accurately identifying potentially qualified participants, minimizing lead drop-off through effective follow-up, and helping the site maintain a healthy screening pipeline across its clinical trials.

The Patient Recruitment & Prescreening Specialist should function as an extension of the site team, providing prospective participants with a professional and positive first experience while helping the site meet its enrollment objectives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong patient engagement skills, accurate prescreening and documentation, and the ability to manage recruitment pipelines effectively. Experience with cardiology or cardiovascular studies will be particularly valuable in supporting recruitment efforts for relevant trials.
