Job description

Celtic Bank is looking for a Junior Business Development Officer (BDO) to support our SBA lending team. In this remote role, you’ll partner with a BDO based in Tennessee to originate SBA loans, equipment leasing, and Asset-Based Lending (ABL) transactions for small businesses nationwide. You’ll help with everything from prospecting and credit analysis to closing and post-closing relationship support. The ideal candidate brings a commercial lending or credit background, along with strong organization and communication skills. Candidates in or near Tennessee are strongly encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do

  • Support your BDO in originating SBA, equipment leasing, and ABL financing for small businesses nationwide
  • Help show small business owners the value of Celtic Bank’s entrepreneurial lending approach
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and brokers who market directly to small business owners
  • Assist with prospecting, outreach, and tracking new opportunities
  • Use Salesforce to track leads, opportunities, and accounts and keep the pipeline accurate
  • Perform pre-underwriting due diligence and credit analysis, and prepare and organize credit files and checklists for underwriting
  • Keep borrowers, brokers, and internal teams informed and moving during underwriting
  • Follow up with borrowers on closing checklist items to keep deals on schedule
  • Help obtain signed commitments after approval and coordinate funding with the Operations team
  • Coordinate closing logistics and help borrowers deliver closing documents
  • Support post-closing relationship and marketing efforts
  • Provide general administrative support to the BDO

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Commercial banking, lending, or credit analyst experience (retail banking experience alone does not qualify)
  • Strong credit skills and working knowledge of credit analysis, underwriting, and loan structuring
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deals and competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including with borrowers, brokers, and internal teams
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Analytical skills and close attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and the internet
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred

  • Located in or near Tennessee, to work closely with the supported BDO
  • Experience with SBA lending, equipment finance, or ABL

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.     • Work Model: The employee in this position will work either a fully Onsite, Hybrid or Remote work model. All employees, regardless of location, may be required to travel to the Salt Lake City office for mandatory company meetings, events, or related occasions.
