Job description

Computer Vision Intern (m/f/d) | Fulltime | Location | Remote in Germany

🚀Who We Are

vialytics is revolutionizing how cities manage road infrastructure. Our AI-powered road management system, combining intelligent software with a simple smartphone, enables municipalities to detect road damage, prioritize maintenance, and make smarter infrastructure decisions.

Founded in 2018, we have rapidly scaled across Europe and the U.S., supporting 900+ municipalities in 7 countries. Backed by a $10M Series A, vialytics is a fast-growing scale-up with ambitious international growth plans.

We are looking for a Computer Vision Intern to join our Data Science team remotely from Germany.

In this role, you will help improve the quality of the data powering our AI models and contribute directly to making road condition assessments more accurate and reliable. You'll work with real-world image datasets, collaborate closely with our Data Science team, and gain hands-on experience in computer vision and machine learning.

We're looking for someone excited to grow with us, ideally with the perspective of transitioning into a permanent Junior position after the internship.

💼 Your Key Responsibilities

As a Computer Vision Intern, you will support our Data Science team in improving the quality and performance of our AI-powered road assessment technology.

  • Maintain reliable data operations: Document datasets, maintain data quality standards, and support continuous improvements to our data processes, including maintaining relevant object databases.

  • Build high-quality datasets: Explore our road image database, select relevant training images, and create balanced datasets across different road conditions, regions, and damage types.

  • Improve data annotation quality: Review labeled images, identify systematic errors and inconsistencies, and collaborate with our annotation team to improve labeling guidelines and processes.

  • Support model training: Use existing machine learning pipelines to train computer vision models and generate automated pre-annotations.

  • Analyze and improve model performance: Investigate model weaknesses, evaluate results across different conditions, and identify opportunities to improve training data.

  • Contribute to real-world AI projects: Support projects such as cobblestone road assessment and traffic sign detection, helping us improve our technology for municipalities.

🌟 We would be the perfect match if you

  • Are currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field or you have just finished your studies and would like to start with an internship to your career.

  • Have solid Python programming skills and experience with common data science libraries such as NumPy, pandas, or image processing tools.

  • Have a good understanding of machine learning fundamentals, ideally with a focus on computer vision and image processing.

  • Are detail-oriented and analytical, with an eye for identifying inconsistencies and improving data quality.
