Job description

Overview:

As a Human Centered Design Expert, you will help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) to meet its mission of providing national leadership, resources, and coordination to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations and American Indians and Alaska Natives and to eliminate health disparities. You will use your human-centered design knowledge, skills, and abilities to produce materials that are more accessible to limited English proficiency (LEP) communities, helping HHS OMH to promote programs, initiatives and administration health priorities, empowering LEP communities to access HHS OMH materials independently, and making them more informed about important health and wellness issues. Work Schedule and Location:

Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm Eastern Time.

Responsibilities:
  • Review, recommend, and implement changes to ensure that revised HHS OHM materials incorporate human-centered design principles.
  • Review HHS OMH materials and recommend improvements to them based on human-centered design principles.
  • Apply human-centered design processes to materials produced for LEP communities, determine and recommend design solutions and improvements, and evaluate correspondence designs according to LEP community requirements.
  • Advise HHS OMH on human-centered design matters.
  • Provide general advice on designs and templates as well as specific advice on revised HHS OMH materials.
  • Contribute to and provide consultation on contract deliverables, including English literacy promotion materials, community outreach materials, meeting agendas, annual reports, and final reports.
  • Juggle multiple deliverables and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Attend and contribute to project status update meetings at least biweekly.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human-centered design, user experience design, computer science, or a related field of study.
  • At least six years of experience providing human-centered design consultation, preferably in a public health or federal government setting.
  • Must be eligible for an HHS Public Trust security clearance.

Desired: 

  • Master’s degree in human-centered design, user experience design, computer science, or a similar field of study.
  • Federal government, government contracting, or public health experience preferred but not required.

Pay Range:

$41.60 to $48.93/hour, depending on experience, education and clearance level.
