About the job

SOVRA is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join its Financial Planning and Analysis team in the Montreal, Quebec area. The person in this role contributes to the monthly reporting prepared for the executive team and the board of directors, as well as the forecasts and budgets that guide the business. This opening is a backfill.

The role prepares a range of recurring and ad hoc analyses, including budget variances, project monitoring, and performance and profitability analysis. It also produces the reports and dashboards, including several SaaS KPIs, required for month-end, and contributes to improving the processes around SOVRA's financial systems.

Executives, the board, and business managers rely on this work to make decisions, so the person in this role ensures the integrity of every deliverable and meets established deadlines. Working directly with business stakeholders, the role turns the numbers into clear explanations that senior audiences can act on. The role works remotely from the Montreal, Quebec area and joins the team onsite for the month-end and quarterly closes.

What will your main responsibilities look like?

Forecasting, Modeling, Budgeting

  • You own assigned workstreams within the monthly financial reporting, annual budget, and forecast processes, covering P&L and cash flow, and you support colleagues as needed.

  • You contribute to the monthly reporting prepared for the executive team and board of directors, and you ensure the integrity of every deliverable within established deadlines.

Variance & Performance Analysis

  • You analyze budget and forecast variances, partnering directly with business stakeholders to gather the explanations and context behind the results.

  • You prepare analytical and management reports, such as sales and customer revenue reports, along with performance and profitability analysis and project monitoring.

SaaS Metrics & Dashboards

  • You prepare the reports and dashboards, including several SaaS KPIs, required for the month-end process.

  • You follow up on dashboards and performance indicators at the operations level.

Stakeholder Partnership & Process Improvement

  • You respond to ad hoc requests from managers and work directly with the business on select projects.

  • You present findings to stakeholders and influence decisions through clear, well-supported analysis, without relying on formal authority.

  • You contribute to optimizing the processes related to SOVRA's financial systems.

What will you bring to this role?

  • FP&A track record — you have 5+ years in FP&A or a comparable finance function as a financial analyst, or in financial consulting, such as at a Big Four firm, delivering modeling and analytics.

  • Forecasting and variance analysis — you build forward-looking models for P&L, cash flow, or SaaS metrics such as ARR, MRR, churn, CAC, and LTV, including rolling forecasts, and you run variance analyses and post-mortems.

  • Advanced Excel and Office skills — you work at an advanced level in Excel, beyond pivot tables and vlookup, you can perform functions such as index-match, ingest multiple data sources, and create advanced analytical formulas. You are proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Stakeholder influence — you present reports to senior stakeholders, explain findings clearly, and influence decisions without formal authority.

  • Bilingual communication — you work comfortably in both English and French

  • Academic foundation — you hold a university degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Montreal-area presence — you live in the Montreal, Quebec area and are available onsite for the month-end and quarterly closes.

  • Authorization to work in the Canada — we are not able to sponsor work visas or transfers at this time.

What are the assets that would make you stand out?

  • SaaS experience — you have worked in a SaaS company and understand how its financial metrics fit together. Candidates from other sectors are equally encouraged to apply.

  • Applied AI in FP&A — you have practical experience using AI tools to improve efficiency and generate insights in FP&A work.

  • Professional designation — you hold a CPA or equivalent designation. Candidates actively pursuing a designation, or with equivalent progressive FP&A experience, are equally encouraged to apply.

You should apply if

  • You want your analysis to inform decisions made by SOVRA's executive team and board of directors.

  • You are drawn to the steady rhythm of the monthly and quarterly cycle, where rigor and consistency build trust in the numbers.

  • You want your finance work to support a company whose technology helps public agencies stretch taxpayer dollars further.

What we look for in applications

We review every application individually and assess it on its own merits rather than screening for keywords. The most impactful applications:

  • Describe the models, forecasts, and reports you built or owned, who relied on them, and the outcome, with numbers wherever you have them.

  • When you name a tool, such as Excel or an AI tool, add a brief note on what you used it to do. Providing more than a list of systems and tools

  • Specific detail about your own work tells us far more than a general summary of responsibilities.

Our interview process

Our process is designed to be thorough while respecting your time. Three conversations cover the substance of the role and how you would work with the team.

  1. Conversation with a member of the Talent Acquisition team

  2. Conversation with team members

  3. Conversation with the CFO
