Job description

Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant

Location: Glenview, Illinois 60025

Employment Type: Part-time, approximately 8-10 hours per week with potential to grow

Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, approximately 7:00 AM-11:00 AM or 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, with some flexibility on start time based on family needs.

Compensation: $30–$35 per hour

Start Date: ASAP

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Reliable transportation, clean driving record, and valid driver's license required (mileage reimbursement provided for household-related driving completed during scheduled work hours).
  • Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including standard childhood vaccinations, COVID-19, and flu), subject to applicable legal accommodations.
  • CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain upon employment.

About Our Family

We are a busy, warm family in Glenview with two young children and our beloved black lab, Pepper. Both of us work outside the home most days, although one of us has some flexibility to work from home when needed. Life is full right now, and we’re at a point where having the right person alongside us would make a meaningful difference. We want our home to feel organized, welcoming, and easy to live in, even when the days get busy.

We’ve had help in our home before, so we understand how much the right person can bring to a household. We’re looking for someone reliable and proactive who can step in, notice what needs to be done, and help keep things moving without creating extra noise or disruption. Just as importantly, we want someone who is warm, respectful, and comfortable becoming a trusted part of our household while maintaining a thoughtful sense of privacy and discretion.

You’re the kind of person who naturally notices what needs to happen and takes care of it without waiting to be asked. You’re organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently, whether that means keeping household routines on track, anticipating what’s coming next, or simply noticing the little things that make a busy home run more smoothly. You take pride in being someone your family can truly rely on.

You also understand that being in someone’s home requires trust. You are warm and kind, communicate openly, and know when to step in and when to give the family space. You don’t need constant direction, but you also aren’t afraid to ask questions or keep the family in the loop when something important comes up. Ultimately, you bring a calm, capable presence to the home and genuinely enjoy making everyday life feel a little easier and more supported.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

  • Support the children in the morning while parents prepare for the day
  • Prepare backpacks, clothing, and snacks for school
  • Coordinate and manage the children's activity schedules as they evolve seasonally
  • Provide occasional school and activity drop-offs and pick-ups, primarily drop-offs

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Create and maintain household organization systems that are functional, sustainable, and adaptable as the family's needs change
  • Reset and tidy the home daily, including wiping surfaces, loading and unloading the dishwasher, taking out the trash, vacuuming high-traffic areas, and completing general upkeep between cleaning visits
  • Organize children's clothing and assist with seasonal clothing swaps as sizes as needs change
  • Gather and prepare items for donation as needed
  • Monitor household maintenance needs, including batteries, light bulbs, smoke detectors, and air filters
  • Care for indoor plants

Laundry & Linens

  • Wash, fold, organize, and put away household laundry
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-stocked laundry area

Inventory & Errands

  • Monitor and restock pantry, refrigerator, and household supplies
  • Maintain running lists of household supplies and items that need to be replenished
  • Handle returns, donations, dry cleaning, mail, and packages
  • Break down and dispose of boxes and packaging
  • Assist with gift shopping, birthday cards, gift wrapping, and other thoughtful personal touches

Pet Care

  • Feed the family dog in the morning, with evening feeding handled by the family
  • Walk the dog at least once per day
  • Transport the dog to daycare occasionally as needed
  • Schedule and coordinate veterinary and grooming appointments
  • Administer medications as needed
  • Monitor and maintain pet supplies

Vehicle Upkeep

  • Schedule and coordinate vehicle maintenance, oil changes, and repairs
  • Bring family vehicles in for scheduled maintenance and service appointments
  • Coordinate vehicle detailing and cleaning

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Research vendors, solicit quotes, and present recommendations to the family
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for contractors, cleaners, and other service providers
  • Identify household maintenance needs and coordinate follow-through

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Identify when deep cleaning or specialty services are needed, including upholstery and rug cleaning, and coordinate scheduling
  • Complete organizational projects in high-traffic areas such as the mudroom, entryway, and garage

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Maintain visibility into the family's weekly schedule while the family retains control of calendar management
  • Assist with travel planning and logistics, including booking flights and accommodations as needed
  • Coordinate packing and unpacking for travel, including resetting the home after trips
  • Prepare the home for hosting events and guests
