We are looking for an experienced Head of Billing to lead our centralized Billing function and drive payment performance across Gismart's portfolio of 12+ subscription-based products.

This role combines deep payments expertise, commercial thinking, and organizational leadership. You will own our Billing strategy, optimize payment infrastructure and processing economics, and build a scalable operating model that balances the needs of independent product teams with company-wide priorities.

You will report directly to the COO and collaborate closely with Product CEOs, technical teams, and external payment partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a portfolio-wide Billing strategy focused on revenue growth, payment efficiency, and profitability.

  • Drive improvements in payment approval rates, subscription conversion, revenue recovery, and processing costs through data-driven experimentation.

  • Own the development and optimization of our web subscription billing infrastructure, including payment orchestration, transaction routing, recurring payments, and retry strategies.

  • Manage integrations with Payment Service Providers (PSPs), payment gateways, and acquiring banks, including identifying new partners and coordinating technical implementation.

  • Establish effective monitoring of key Billing KPIs, including payment performance, fraud and risk metrics, chargebacks, and processing expenses.

  • Oversee fraud prevention, chargeback management, and payment risk mitigation, ensuring compliance with relevant card network regulations.

  • Lead strategic relationships with payment partners, including commercial negotiations, performance reviews, and critical escalations.

  • Partner with Product CEOs to identify growth opportunities, align competing priorities, and translate business needs into actionable Billing initiatives.

  • Establish transparent prioritization frameworks and clear ownership between central Billing and product-level teams.

  • Ensure payment infrastructure reliability through effective monitoring, incident management, and continuous process improvements.

  • Lead and develop the Billing team, building scalable processes, clear accountability, and a proactive, results-driven culture.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in Payments, Billing, Payment Operations, or Payment Product Management, including experience in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of subscription-based business models, ideally within B2C digital products.

  • Hands-on experience with payment processing, merchant accounts, payment gateways, acquiring banks, and payment orchestration platforms.

  • Deep knowledge of card payment flows, transaction routing, recurring billing, authorization optimization, and payment recovery.

  • Solid understanding of Visa and Mastercard regulations, fraud prevention, anti-fraud systems, and chargeback management.

  • Proven experience managing PSP relationships, negotiating commercial terms, and evaluating payment partners.

  • Strong analytical skills, experience working with large datasets, and ability to translate payment metrics into actionable business decisions.

  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams on payment integrations, technical requirements, and infrastructure improvements.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders with competing priorities and drive cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and ability to build scalable processes and effective operating models.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with a high level of ownership and accountability.

  • Upper-intermediate or higher English proficiency.

Would be a plus

  • Experience in a multi-product environment, venture builder, or organization with decentralized product ownership.

  • Experience with Stripe, Primer, PayPal, or other major payment service providers and orchestration platforms.

  • Experience building or significantly scaling web subscription billing infrastructure.

  • Experience with banking anti-fraud systems, payment risk management, and advanced fraud prevention solutions.

  • Experience managing payment operations across multiple geographies, currencies, and acquiring markets.

  • Understanding of subscription unit economics, LTV optimization, and payment-related profitability metrics.

  • Experience in the mobile applications industry or other high-volume B2C subscription businesses.
