Position Title: Sport Data & Analytics Intern

Hourly Rate: 18.40 an hour or University Course credit

Position Summary:

Sport Development is searching for a University-student supporting the review, consolidation and organization of sport data and research.  Within those duties, this individual will support the collection, review and data analysis of the Sport-specific information and sport development initiatives.  This position supports reaching the strategic plan targets of quality sport for our athletes across the movement while providing hands on exposure to sport data monitoring, evaluation & analysis.

The intern will contribute to the development of Sport grant data MEL, analysis of Special Olympics census data in alignment with sport goals, and support a variety of sport data projects and operational initiatives as assigned. The Sport department is seeking students interested in gaining internship experience with Sport-based events, inclusive sports, sports data, research and evaluation. Potential internship activities include:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Aggregate data and research results to create reports and presentations
• Conduct literature reviews on topics, such as community inclusion, impact of sport on health, and long-term health outcomes
• Create and organize research databases
• Sport Data analysis
• Review of potential research partners
• Develop and implement surveys to evaluate current programming
• Review and assist with updating existing data collection tools and resources

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or pursuing master's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Sports Management, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in sports, program evaluation, data management, and performance measurement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; SQL, R, or Python experience is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data findings clearly.
• Experience collecting, cleaning, validating, and organizing data from multiple sources.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to data quality, accuracy, and confidentiality.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present insights to non-technical audiences.
• Interest in mission-driven organizations and using data to improve program quality and impact.

Internship Details:

The start and end date for the internship are flexible based on University calendar. Position is part-time with hours agreed upon by intern and SOI. Eligible applicants may be a current Master’s student in Sport Exercise and Science, Data Sciences, Education, or Research and may be eligible for University credit.
