Job description

Position Purpose:

Magpie Health Analytics (Magpie) is seeking a full-time, remote Human Resources Manager to lead the day-to-day operation and continued development of the company’s Human Resources function. The position is responsible for recruiting and hiring support, onboarding and offboarding, employee relations, benefits and leave administration, HR policies and records, and other employment practices supporting Magpie’s growing workforce.

The Human Resources Manager will serve as Magpie’s primary HR resource for employees and managers and will help develop scalable HR processes and practices as the company continues to grow. The position requires someone who can independently handle routine HR matters, research and develop approaches to new or unfamiliar issues, and recognize when management, legal counsel, or other specialized expertise should be engaged.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for both the day-to-day operation and continued development of Magpie’s Human Resources function.

  • Serve as Magpie’s primary HR resource for employees and managers, providing practical guidance and support on routine employment matters.
  • Manage recruiting and hiring processes for approved positions, including job descriptions, postings, candidate coordination, offers, background checks, drug screening, and other pre-employment activities.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding and coordinate required activities with managers and other Magpie functions.
  • Administer employee benefits, leave, PTO, personnel records, HR documentation, and related employee programs.
  • Support managers with employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, and other people-management matters.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve HR policies, procedures, workflows, forms, templates, and other practices that support a growing organization.
  • Review HR practices to identify gaps, inconsistencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Monitor applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements and incorporate them into Magpie’s HR practices as the company grows and enters new jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with Contracts, Compliance, IT & Security, project leadership, payroll, benefits providers, and other functions to ensure HR processes support Magpie’s business and federal-contractor workforce requirements.
  • Research new or unfamiliar HR issues, develop practical approaches and recommendations, and recognize when management, legal counsel, or other specialized expertise should be engaged.
  • Help build scalable HR systems and practices that allow routine people matters to be handled consistently and effectively as Magpie continues to grow

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including experience independently managing a broad range of HR responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits, leave administration, and employee separation.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment requirements and experience supporting employees across multiple states.
  • Demonstrated ability to research unfamiliar HR issues, evaluate requirements and options, and develop practical recommendations.
  • Experience developing and improving HR policies, procedures, processes, and documentation rather than solely administering established processes.
  • Sound judgment regarding matters that can be handled independently and those requiring management, legal, or other specialized review.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with executives, managers, employees, and external professional advisors.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting a small or rapidly growing professional-services organization.
  • Experience supporting federal government contractors or other regulated organizations.
  • Experience supporting a geographically distributed or multi-state workforce.
  • Familiarity with federal-contractor workforce requirements, including background investigations, suitability or credentialing, employment eligibility, and contract-specific personnel requirements.
  • Experience developing HR infrastructure for an organization experiencing significant workforce growth.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience coordinating with outside employment counsel, benefits providers, payroll providers, and other specialized HR resources.
