Job description

Overview

Surf Internet seeks a part-time attorney licensed in Illinois with approximately 3-5 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have litigation or dispute-resolution experience and be comfortable handling a broad range of legal issues in a fast-paced business environment.

This role is primarily focused on dispute management, litigation support, regulatory matters, compliance, legal research, and day-to-day business counseling. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating independently in a lean legal department without dedicated legal assistant support.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and claims management.
  • Draft demand letters, settlement agreements, releases, and related correspondence.
  • Coordinate with and manage outside counsel.
  • Investigate and help resolve disputes involving customers, contractors, property owners, vendors, and other third parties.
  • Support regulatory, permitting, compliance, and government affairs matters.
  • Provide practical legal guidance to business and operational teams.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare concise guidance memoranda.
  • Develop policies, forms, and internal procedures.
  • Review routine commercial agreements and identify legal risks when needed.
  • Independently manage assigned matters, maintain organized files, track deadlines, and handle related administrative tasks without dedicated legal support staff.
