HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As the Director, Market Development, you will provide strategic market leadership across South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, with primary accountability for the South Korean market and additional responsibility for advancing GBCI’s growth and market development efforts in Japan and Taiwan. You will play a key role in expanding the adoption of LEED and other GBCI certification and credentialing programs, strengthening GBCI’s market presence, and identifying opportunities for long-term growth across these markets.

South Korea will serve as your primary market and area of focus, where you will develop and execute market strategies; build relationships with leading corporations, developers, project teams, consultants, government agencies, and other industry stakeholders; strengthen GBCI’s local partner and service provider network; and identify innovative approaches to increase market penetration and adoption of GBCI programs. In Japan and Taiwan, you will identify and advance market opportunities, develop strategic relationships and partnerships, and support GBCI’s continued growth and expansion.

You will serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader on LEED, sustainable buildings, and green building practices, educating and engaging stakeholders through meetings, presentations, workshops, conferences, webinars, and other industry forums. As a senior market representative for GBCI, you will bring market intelligence, customer feedback, and industry insights from South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan back to the organization to help inform regional priorities, programs, and market strategies.

Reporting to the Managing Director, GBCI North Asia, you will collaborate closely with regional and global colleagues across Market Development, Certification, Business Development, Marketing, and Operations. Your work will help expand GBCI’s presence, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and advance sustainable building practices across South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute GBCI’s market development and business development strategy for South Korea as the role’s primary market, while advancing market development and growth opportunities in Japan and Taiwan.
  • Develop and execute market strategies that strengthen GBCI’s presence, expand customer and partner networks, increase market penetration, and support long-term business growth across South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader on LEED, sustainable buildings, and green building practices, establishing GBCI as a trusted industry resource across the markets supported by the role.
  • Educate industry stakeholders on green building best practices, LEED, and other GBCI programs through meetings, presentations, workshops, conferences, webinars, industry events, and other written, verbal, and in-person channels.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with developers, owners, corporations, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, service providers, government agencies, industry organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Serve as GBCI’s primary representative and market ambassador in South Korea and represent the organization with key stakeholders in Japan and Taiwan.
  • Identify and advance market development opportunities in Japan and Taiwan, including strategic relationships, partnerships, priority sectors, and opportunities to increase adoption of LEED and other GBCI programs.
  • Develop new relationships and strengthen GBCI’s network of partners and service providers to increase market reach, stakeholder engagement, and adoption of GBCI programs.
  • Identify and pursue innovative approaches, new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and market development initiatives that expand GBCI’s reach and increase market penetration across the supported markets.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of LEED, sustainable buildings, and green building practices to provide strategic and technical leadership to the market and communicate the business value of GBCI programs to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Provide guidance to clients and project teams regarding LEED certification pathways, sustainability best practices, and GBCI certification processes, connecting stakeholders with appropriate technical resources when needed.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitive activity, regulatory and industry developments, and emerging opportunities across South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and translate those insights into actionable recommendations that inform market and regional strategy.
  • Review and provide strategic feedback on USGBC and GBCI resources, products, programs, and market initiatives to support their relevance, effectiveness, and optimization for South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
  • Collaborate with the North Asia regional team and GBCI headquarters by sharing market intelligence, customer feedback, stakeholder insights, and strategic recommendations from South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan that inform regional and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate market development campaigns, educational initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities aligned with organizational and market priorities.
  • Maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships to improve client satisfaction, retention, and long-term engagement with GBCI products and services.
  • Effectively manage priorities and stakeholder relationships while working independently in a fully remote, internationally matrixed environment.
