Our community brings together Translators without Borders and Tarjimly community members, contributing language skills across translation, interpretation and other language-access activities.

The role

The Community Care and Communications Intern will help us make sure that members of our Translators without Borders and Tarjimly communities feel informed, supported, and recognized throughout their experience with CLEAR Global.

Community care is at the heart of this role. This means responding to questions and requests, keeping community members informed about opportunities and processes, recognizing their contributions, and helping ensure that communication with our community is timely, clear, and respectful.

Working closely with the Language Access and Engagement Specialist and colleagues across CLEAR Global, the intern will support day-to-day community communications, our recognition program, community support channels, and communications related to quality and participation.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day community communications: Help manage communications with Translators without Borders and Tarjimly community members through email, Intercom and other relevant channels, responding to routine questions and directing more complex requests to the appropriate team member.
  • Coordinate community email communications: Help prepare, organize and send targeted communications to community members, including updates, opportunities, calls for participation, reminders and follow-ups.
  • Support the community recognition program: Coordinate day-to-day recognition processes, including checking community members' eligibility for certificates and other forms of recognition, generating certificates, maintaining records and responding to related requests.
  • Support community members throughout their experience: Help community members understand relevant processes, opportunities and resources, and make sure questions, requests, and issues are followed through or directed to the right person.
  • Support quality-related communication: Liaise with colleagues responsible for quality and help coordinate appropriate communication with community members when feedback, reminders, or follow-up are needed. Quality assessment and decisions remain with the relevant staff members.
  • Support community onboarding and lifecycle communications: Help with welcome messages, reminders, re-engagement, and other communications that guide community members through different stages of their participation.
  • Maintain accurate community records: Keep trackers and relevant community information up to date so that communications, recognition, and follow-up are based on accurate information.
  • Improve community communication processes: Help maintain templates, guidance, FAQs, and standard responses, and identify recurring questions or communication gaps that could be addressed more effectively.
  • Support targeted outreach: Help contact relevant community members when particular languages, skills or profiles are needed for CLEAR Global activities, projects, or urgent responses.
  • Gather community insights: Keep track of recurring questions, concerns and feedback received through community support channels and share relevant trends with the wider team.
  • Provide coordination and administrative support: Help maintain communication calendars, trackers, documentation and other systems needed to keep community support and recognition activities organized.
  • Other tasks: Take on other community communications and support tasks as needed and represent CLEAR Global appropriately throughout the internship.

Qualifications 

  • Current graduate student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), Strong written and spoken English; knowledge of other languages is an advantage;
  • Clear, thoughtful and respectful written communication skills, with awareness of intercultural contexts;
  • Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Comfortable communicating with a wide range of people and handling different types of requests;
  • Comfortable learning new tools and software; training and support will be provided;
  • Previous experience in community support, user support, communications, volunteering, translation or interpreting is an advantage, but not required;
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
