Job description

At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.

The Risk & Analytics team makes crucial decisions that direct Affirm’s business strategy. Our team designs and runs experiments to decide which product features to launch and which marketing campaigns to fund. We analyze performance not just to report on it, but to determine where to invest resources for maximum impact through building tools and analytical frameworks. We take ownership of the entire analytical lifecycle, from initial question to final business decision, ensuring Affirm grows efficiently and intelligently.

About the role

The Collections & Recoveries Analyst will own and drive the collections and recoveries strategy for Affirm Canada, spanning the full post-delinquency lifecycle from early-stage digital and outbound collections through third-party recovery-agency placement and post-charge-off recoveries, partnering closely with Product and Compliance to ensure collections and recoveries practices meet Canadian federal and provincial consumer protection, collections, and privacy requirements. The analyst will be responsible for owning and driving the collections and recoveries roadmap for the market, quantifying the impact of new collections and recovery initiatives, and monitoring downstream performance.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of strong analytical expertise with a deep understanding of consumer credit and collections behaviour, and the ability to improve recovery outcomes through data-driven insights, vendor management, and cross-functional stakeholder management.

Come join us in our mission to change consumer finance through better data and technology, lower costs, and increased transparency while providing the best customer experience.

What you’ll do

You will own the full Canadian post-delinquency lifecycle: digital and outbound collections, third-party agency placement, and post-charge-off recoveries.

  • Collections channel strategy. Own the digital and calling collections mix: comms cadence and sequencing, day-of-week and channel optimisation, outbound calling strategy, and the experiments that prove what drives repayment.
  • Recoveries Strategy. Own recoveries strategy and  performance analytics: recovery rates, cost-to-collect, placement mix, liquidation curves, and vendor scorecards
  • Strategy and roadmap ownership. Set and iterate the Canadian collections and recoveries strategy across delinquency, roll rates, agency performance, and charge-off / net-after-charge-off outcomes. You will identify, size and drive initiatives to improve collections and recoveries performance.
  • Initiative design and quantification. Take collections and recoveries initiatives from hypothesis to launch to measured impact: sizing the opportunity up front, developing A/B experiment frameworks, and proving the result afterwards.
  • Regulatory partnership. Work with Product, Legal and Compliance so that every treatment you design holds up against Canada's distinctive regulatory landscape: province-by-province collection-agency and consumer protection legislation, Quebec's separate civil-law regime and consumer credit rules, and federal and provincial privacy laws.
  • Cross-market leverage. Partner with collections and recoveries teams across other geographies, particularly the US, to drive cross-market leverage.

What we look for

  • 5-7+ years in credit risk, collections, or recoveries strategy analytics in consumer lending.
  • Experience designing or optimising collections and/or recoveries strategies leveraging data, analytics and insights.
  • Very strong analytical background with proficiency in SQL, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret credit and collections performance data and translate it into action.
  • Knowledge of collections, recoveries, and delinquency management practices. Familiarity with Canadian consumer protection, collections, and privacy regulations (e.g., provincial consumer protection / collection-agency legislation, PIPEDA) is a plus.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management with ability to communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for finding insights in data and driving change based on those insights.
  • Intelligence + Humility. Hubris is the fastest way to blow up a business!
