Our Innovation team develops safe, reliable and efficient vessel and system designs that support Fugro products and enable operational success. We are looking for an Innovation Engineer to help drive the design, development and delivery of next-generation marine systems and uncrewed vessel solutions.

This role combines strong naval architecture and marine engineering expertise with innovative thinking and practical delivery skills. The Innovation Engineer translates operational requirements into feasible vessel and system designs, supports engineering activities throughout the full project lifecycle, and ensures compliance with company standards and applicable regulations. Working closely with product owners, engineers, clients, partners and suppliers, the role contributes to the development of innovative marine solutions while driving continuous improvement across engineering processes.

Your role

  • You lead the design and development of uncrewed vessels and marine systems, from concept through build supervision, testing and s trials;

  • You translate operational requirements into safe, reliable and efficient engineering solutions and vessel designs;

  • You perform and coordinate engineering analyses, including stability, hydrodynamics, propulsion and system performance assessments;

  • You prepare, review and approve engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation, ensuring quality and compliance;

  • You collaborate with shipyards, class societies, suppliers and internal stakeholders to integrate requirements and deliver successful projects;

  • You support inspections, production activities, testing programmes and troubleshooting to ensure engineering integrity and operational readiness;

  • You contribute to innovation, continuous improvement and the development of engineering standards, tools and best practices.

Your track record

  • You have a BSc or MSc degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline;

  • You have relevant experience in naval architecture, marine engineering, R&D, or new-build vessel projects;

  • You possess knowledge of vessel operations, marine safety requirements, and applicable regulations;

  • You can translate operational requirements into practical engineering solutions and perform technical analyses and assessments;

  • You are an effective communicator who thrives in international, multidisciplinary environments and collaborates easily with a range of stakeholders;

  • You demonstrate creativity, sound judgement, and a continuous learning mindset; experience with class approvals, shipyard coordination, vessel inspections, marine design software, and project coordination is an advantage.
