Job description

About The Back Room

We exist to free our clients' time so they can focus on what they do best — growing their business. We deliver smart, efficient solutions that liberate teams from the everyday admin, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. Time is the ultimate currency, and we treat it like it.

About the Client
Our client is one of the largest CPA and advisory firms in the Southeastern United States, providing audit, tax, accounting, and consulting services to a wide range of industries and organizations. Established in 1918, the firm has built a strong reputation for delivering personalized client service, technical expertise, and long-term business partnerships.

The Role
The role is focused on performing audits for nonprofit organizations while ensuring compliance with GAAP, GAAS, GASB, and relevant regulatory requirements. You’ll manage multiple audit engagements, work closely with audit teams, and ensure engagements are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.

What You'll Do

  • Perform audits for nonprofit organizations with accuracy and skill

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and GAAS regulations during all audits

  • Participate in teams of two to four associates and provide regular status updates to supervisors

  • Ensure audits are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations, including OMB Circular A-133 (now the Uniform Guidance for federal awards).

  • Responsible for seeing that all engagements are complete and ready for Manager or Partner review within the established time frame and budget for engagements in accordance with M&J’s quality control policies

  • Acts as a change agent; sets an example by accepting change and proactively supporting change (e.g. change in audit tools, different audit approach at the client, etc.)

  • Develop staff by serving as a mentor, delegating tasks and training them to be successful in their careers

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • B.A./B.S. in Accounting

  • 3-5 years of public accounting experience specifically auditing nonprofit organizations

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, GAAS, GASB, and regulatory compliance

  • Maintains a positive attitude that is reflected in work and evident to others; motivates others

  • Exhibits professionalism at all times

  • Demonstrates solid interpersonal and communication skills

  • Capable of managing multiple audit client engagements throughout the year

Why This Role
