Junior Quality Control Engineer - Remote w/frequent travel (Must live in the United States)

What are we looking for?

The Junior Quality Control Engineer will conduct quality control audits and inspections at manufacturing sites, ensuring compliance with client standards and specifications during the production process of solar PV components. This role involves onsite monitoring, visual inspections, and documentation to ensure the quality and reliability of solar products. They will work closely with internal and external teams, leveraging a strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining high standards in manufacturing environments

The Junior Quality Control Engineer could also engage in field work and be responsible for executing onsite solar PV projects including PV module testing, inspections, audits, commissioning verification, troubleshooting, etc.  Candidate will be responsible for executing work within all technical, commercial, safety regulatory, and environmental requirements to meet or exceed client’s expectations. 

The candidate should also be able to troubleshoot issues that may arise during testing, resolve conflicts, communicate effectively virtually with colleagues and coordinate work with client’s representatives onsite, be comfortable working in a group environment, and willing to put in extra effort to coordinate activities across time zones. 

Shift/Schedule: Variable. This position will travel up to 75% of the time.

What you'll do: 

  • Travel to manufacturing facilities to perform production quality control audits and inspections on solar PV products and components.
  • Conduct visual inspections using established quality control checklists to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Verify Bill of Materials (BOM) and monitor inline production processes.
  • Oversee pre-shipment inspections, packaging, and loading processes for finished products.
  • Support internal and external laboratory testing efforts, ensuring alignment with client requirements.
  • Generate and submit detailed QC reports promptly following audits.
  • Address client-specific QC requests and provide additional services as needed within defined scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with back-office teams to support cross-functional projects in quality control, finance, and operations.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • B.S. in engineering or physics (4-year engineering/science degree) 
  • An understanding of the components and operation of PV modules and systems 
  • Experience with I-V Curve Tracing, Megger Testing, Infrared Scanning, Visual Inspection, Multimeter Use and safety practices while conducting inspections and/or commissioning work
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); diligent record-keeping; proficient Microsoft Office and computer skills
  • OSHA 10/30 certification, fall protection training, and training in arc-flash, lock-out/tag-out, and other special protective equipment and procedures desirable 
  • Ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions including but not limited to desert areas, winter conditions, nighttime work, long hours standing, climbing stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
  • Intertek is not able to provide visa sponsorship or work authorization support for this position Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without current or future sponsorship
  • Ability to travel out of town the majority of the time
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record  
  • This is a remote position; however, applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Experience in PV testing/inspection, O&M, or electrician experience with C&I and/or utility scaled PV systems
  • Experience in interpreting EL images and/or I-V curve traces and/or testing PV modules and cells 
  • NABCEP certification
