Position: Code Plan Reviewer (Plans Examiner) — Vulcan
Type: Contract
Compensation: $45–$60/hour
Location: Remote

Role Responsibilities

• Develop evaluation tasks using real permit review work, including building plans examiner review and code consultant plan review.
• Author tasks and correct answers based on real drawings, documents, and site photos.
• Ensure quality by having tasks checked by a second reviewer in your discipline.
• Conduct accessibility and ICC A117.1 review, energy code drawing checks, and occupancy classification.
• Review zoning site plans, permit intake completeness, and specialty occupancy for various facilities.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines while improving task quality.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• 3+ years in a building department plans examiner or similar role.
• ICC Building Plans Examiner certification (B1, B2, or B3).
• Experience with Bluebeam Revu or equivalent.
• US-based, working in US model code jurisdictions (IBC, IEBC, IECC, ICC A117.1).

Preferred

• 8+ years of experience in plan review roles.
• Experience training junior examiners or maintaining a comment library.
