Job description

What is Spade?

Financial institutions process billions of transactions every day across cards, ACH, wires, and third party aggregators. But most of that data is difficult to use. Descriptions are inconsistent, merchant names don’t match, and categories vary by payment type.

Spade is a data and AI platform that turns messy transaction strings into structured, verified records — and gives teams the tools to act on it across authorization, attribution, analytics, and AI initiatives. Spade leads the market in terms of merchant coverage, matching accuracy, geolocation data, and speed of transaction enrichment. Customers such as, FIS, Bilt, Mercury, Stripe, alongside many other leaders in fintech and financial services, trust Spade's data to enable personalized rewards programs, accurate applied spending rules, precise analytics requests, and innovative AI-powered features.

Spade is a fast growing, Series B company backed by industry experts and top tier investors (including Oak HC/FT, a16z, Flourish Ventures, Y-Combinator, and Gradient Ventures). We’re a lean and execution-oriented hybrid team, passionate about building exceptional products for our growing customer base. We care deeply about diversity of background, experience, and opinion. We value empathy, curiosity, and passion, and strive to create an environment where individuals have autonomy and the ability to take ownership over their work.

The Opportunity

As Spade's first Product Marketing Manager, you'll own how our financial data and AI platform is positioned, launched, and sold. You'll shape the positioning and the narrative with our CEO and product team, build the enablement our AEs take into deals, and get in front of customers yourself.

You'll be our second marketing hire, which means you get to decide what product marketing looks like here. You'll build the function from scratch, work directly with product, sales, and the exec team, and have real influence. We move fast and you'll be hands on with all of it. And you'll do it with Stripe, Bilt, Mercury, PayPal and Citizens already on the customer list, so there's real proof behind everything you put out and real stories to tell.

What will you be doing?

  • Own positioning and messaging for the Spade platform and every product inside it, keeping it updated as the product line expands and changes

  • Run product launches end to end: the message, the proof, the assets, the channel plan, the internal rollout, and measurement

  • Build the sales enablement that our AEs will actually use: pitch decks, talk tracks, demo narratives, sales collateral, 1:1 and 1:many collateral and campaigns, objection handling, etc

  • Own competitive and market intelligence, kept current from live deals, including the build-in-house case that comes up in every large account

  • Own customer proof: case studies, reference stories, the proof library, and the research the story rests on

  • Sit between product and the market: buyer research, win/loss, and the segmentation and packaging calls that come out of both

What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?

Must Have:

  • 6+ years in B2B marketing with product marketing as the core craft, at Seed to Series C companies. You take an objective, set the plan, and run it to completion with founders and enterprise sellers as your daily partners

  • You're hands on. You've built the decks, written the pages, run the campaigns, and done the segmentation yourself, and you can point to the work rather than the frameworks

  • Fintech or financial services experience. Payments, banking, card, or transaction data is ideal.

  • You have built AI systems (not just tools) that do real product marketing work: competitive monitoring, buyer and call research, message testing, or enablement production

  • You have built positioning and messaging from a blank page for a technical product, and can walk through the reasoning, not only the finished words

  • You have run launches for an enterprise, sales-led motion, including the enablement that got sellers to adopt the message, and can name what you measured

  • You're an exceptional writer with a high quality bar. You lead with what the customer wins and put the mechanism second

  • Based in NYC with ability to work out of our Flatiron office at least 2 days/week

Nice to Have:

  • You have run customer research first-hand: buyer interviews, mining recorded sales calls, win/loss, and turning what you heard into positioning that changed

  • You have sold into banks or large financial institutions, ideally with buying committees of five to ten-plus stakeholders, procurement and legal gates, multi-quarter cycles

  • Prior work on pricing and packaging, especially moving a company off a single product onto a multi-product structure with a strong expansion play

  • You have directed contractors and agencies across design, content, video, and web, and gotten good work out of them

Why Join Spade?

  • Be a cultural founder. As an early employee, you’ll play a meaningful role in defining and building our culture.

  • Get in on the ground floor. We’re a small but well-funded team – joining now comes with limited risk and unlimited upside.

  • Build the next generation of financial infrastructure. Our products will power the next wave of innovation in fintech, helping our customers deliver better, more transparent products and services to the consumer.

Benefits at Spade:

  • Competitive Compensation. Data-driven salaries that reward performance and ownership.

  • Meaningful Equity. Flexibility with early exercise and an extended post-termination options.

  • Comprehensive Health Benefits. 100% paid medical, mental, dental, and vision premium option plus One Medical membership (for US-based employees).

  • 401(k). Empowering you to invest in your future.

  • Paid Parental Leave. 12 weeks of full pay for parents welcoming a new child into their home.

  • Unlimited PTO. Take the time you need to unplug and unwind.

  • Flexible In-Person Culture. NYC HQ (hybrid and dog-friendly) with remote opportunities for certain roles in US/Canada.

  • Supporting you in and outside of work. Generous work from home stipend, company-paid lunches, Citibike Membership, and more.

Salary Range:

  • At Spade, we view total compensation as consisting of salary + equity + benefits. We recruit motivated and high performing talent, and work to compensate people in line with the value they bring to our team.

  • We aim to pay fairly and competitively, and consider a number of factors in developing compensation offers. These factors include years and breadth of experience, interview performance, market dynamics, and internal equity.

  • The anticipated base salary range for this role is listed above (in USD).
