Job description

A fast-growing plaintiff-side litigation firm representing property owners in insurance disputes is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its South Carolina practice. This fully remote role is ideal for a litigation attorney who wants more case ownership, less emphasis on traditional billable-hour culture, and meaningful upside tied to the value of the cases they handle.

What You'll Do as the Associate Attorney:

  • Manage first-party property insurance matters from pre-suit through litigation and resolution
  • Evaluate incoming claims and help determine case viability, strategy, and value
  • Communicate directly with clients throughout the life of each matter
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, demands, and other litigation documents
  • Conduct legal research and help develop case strategy
  • Take and defend depositions as experience allows
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and settlement negotiations
  • Negotiate with insurance carriers and defense counsel
  • Work with adjusters, engineers, experts, and other professionals involved in property claims
  • Maintain organized case files, deadlines, and client communications in a remote environment
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys, paralegals, and litigation support staff
  • Build deeper expertise in plaintiff-side insurance litigation while taking on increasing case responsibility

Must-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active South Carolina Bar license in good standing
  • Approximately 2+ years of substantive civil litigation experience
  • Hands-on experience with pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions, negotiations, or similar litigation work
  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently manage deadlines and competing priorities
  • Strong client communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a fully remote, technology-forward practice
  • Interest in developing deeper expertise in insurance litigation

Nice-to-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

  • Insurance defense experience
  • First-party property insurance experience
  • Broader insurance litigation or coverage experience
  • Familiarity with how carriers evaluate, defend, and resolve claims
  • Experience with hail, wind, hurricane, fire, water, or other property-loss matters
  • Federal court experience
  • Deposition experience
  • Mediation experience
  • Bad-faith litigation exposure
  • Clio experience
  • Additional state bar admissions
  • Existing referral relationships or interest in developing business

This Role Offers:

  • Base salary of $90,000-$110,000
  • 5% commission on net legal fees generated from matters handled by the attorney
  • 15% origination credit on net legal fees from matters personally originated or referred to the firm
  • Fully remote work
  • Greenville, SC is preferred, but qualified South Carolina-barred attorneys may be considered from other locations
  • Health insurance with the firm covering 75% of the employee premium
  • 401(k) with a 3% employer match
  • Meaningful earning upside tied to both case results and business generation
  • Opportunity to transition from defense-side practice into plaintiff-side litigation
  • Training and support to build first-party property insurance expertise
  • Opportunity to take on greater responsibility as the practice expands
