  • GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional HVDC Field Service Engineer to join our Field Services team based in the South Korea.

    Role Overview:

    The HVDC  Field Service Engineer – Power Electronics/Electrical will deliver high‑quality technical support by managing service contracts, coordinating site activities, and contributing to the commissioning of  HVDC equipment.

    You will play a key role in supporting the energy transition by ensuring the reliable operation and service performance of advanced power‑electronics systems. In this role, you will manage service contracts, site activities, and provide hands‑on support during commissioning of and HVDC equipment. The role focuses on executing Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA), troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, emergency site support. Working closely with customers and internal teams, you will help maintain system availability, resolve technical issues, and ensure safe, efficient execution of service activities. Your contribution will directly support customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and the continued growth of our service portfolio.

    Your Impact

  • Lead and execute maintenance, onsite interventions, and technical support activities across  HVDC transmission systems to ensure safe, reliable operation for global customers.
  • Manage all preparations for site activities, coordinating closely with end customers and internal teams to ensure smooth, efficient execution.
  • Perform commissioning activities on HVDC equipment, contributing to successful energisation and system handover.
  • Take ownership of the technical scope within multi‑year service contracts, ensuring high‑quality delivery and long‑term customer satisfaction.
  • Attend and lead customer meetings, identifying technical solutions that address operational needs and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Support minor renovation and upgrade projects for  installations, applying technical knowledge to enhance system performance.
  • Execute HVDC Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Develop annual maintenance plans and coordinate scheduled outages with customers.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HVDC systems.
  • Prepare service reports, maintenance records, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual KPIs, including system availability, response time, and maintenance quality.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on HVDC systems, including converter valves, control and protection systems, power electronics, cooling systems, DC equipment, AC switchyards, and auxiliary systems.
  • Provide rapid on-site support during forced outages and emergency situations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support remote troubleshooting and technical assistance for APAC HVDC projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support commissioning, functional testing, and system energisation of HVDC installations.
  • Participate in site acceptance tests (SAT), performance tests, and reliability runs.
  • Coordinate with customers, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams during site activities.
  • Ensure all site work complies with quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with the ITO (Inquiry‑to‑Order) team by providing technical expertise during tendering activities to ensure accurate, competitive proposals.
  • Special Role Requirements:

  • Able to travel extensively to and from projects and various field assignments.
  • Willing to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
  • Ability to spend considerable time away from home for training and field assignments.
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with GE Vernova, Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, Hyosung, LS Electric (IGBT) and HD Hyundai Electric (rotating machine) or similar HVDC technologies.
  • Knowledge of converter valves, IGBT systems, DC switchgear, transformers, harmonic filters, and SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with RCA methodologies and asset management systems.
  • Experience with remote diagnostics and digital service tools.
  • HV switching authorisation and EHS certifications are an advantage.
  • What Success Looks Like in This Role

    The ideal candidate should be a technically strong, safety‑minded power‑electronics /Electrical engineer with hands‑on site experience, excellent customer‑facing skills, and the ability to lead complex service activities on HVDC systems with:

  • Strong technical background with site experience in switching equipment, harmonic filters, instrumentation transformers, and commissioning of protection relays.
  • Practical expertise in technologies (thyristor‑ and IGBT‑based), with knowledge of rotating machines considered an advantage.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems using network recorders, analysers, and detailed log/curve analysis.
  • Strong EHS awareness with the discipline to apply safety rules rigorously, especially during incidents or customer‑pressured situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of writing clear reports, planning site activities, and managing customer interactions confidently.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving ability, project‑management awareness, and experience leading on‑site teams during service or commissioning activities.
  • Engineering degree (or equivalent “house engineer” experience) in power electronics or Electrical, with hands‑on experience in drives HVDC systems.

    Language Skills

  • English: Good verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and communicate effectively with customers and project teams.
  • Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronics  Engineering with 5 to 10 years relevant experience Or
  • Diploma in Electrical or Electronics  Engineering will also be considered, provided the candidate has more than 10 years of relevant experience in HVDC, FACTS, GIS, AIS, or EHV substation commissioning, maintenance, or field service.
