Job Summary: 

The Payroll Analyst supports accurate, timely, and compliant US payroll processing by reviewing payroll data, validating timekeeping and employee changes, resolving routine discrepancies, supporting payroll tax, audit, and multi-state termination pay requirements, and serving as backup support during absences or high-volume periods. 

The Gig:

  • Assist with and/or process biweekly payroll accurately and on time in accordance with company policies and all applicable US federal, state, and local requirements. 
  • Review timekeeping, earnings, deductions, direct deposit changes, employee updates, and tax elections. 
  • Review terminations for applicable US state final pay timing, deduction, and documentation requirements. 
  • Support payroll tax withholding, deduction, filing, and reporting activities, including US federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, FUTA, SUTA, state income tax, local tax, and other statutory payroll requirements. 
  • Research payroll discrepancies, tax variances, missing information, and timecard issues; resolve routine items and escalate as needed. 
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries related to pay, taxes, deductions, direct deposit, garnishments, and pay statements. 
  • Maintain payroll records and support reporting, reconciliations, audit requests, compliance documentation, and internal controls. 
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll activities, including payroll reconciliations, taxable wage review, W-2 support, tax notice research, and audit documentation. 
  • Review and prepare escalated off-cycle payroll runs, in a prompt manner as needed. 
  • Serve as backup support for all things payroll during absences or high-volume periods.  

What you need to make the cut:

  • 2-4 years of US payroll processing, payroll support required.  
  • Associate’s Degree or higher-level degreed achievement in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of US payroll concepts, including gross-to-net calculations, tax withholdings (including federal, state, local, Social Security, Medicare, FUTA, and SUTA), taxable wages, pre- and post-tax deductions, FLSA wage and hour requirements, terminations, garnishments, year-end reporting, and compliance requirements in a multi-state environment. 
  • Familiarity with US multi-state payroll compliance, state and local tax withholding, unemployment tax, reciprocity rules, paid leave programs, and jurisdiction-specific payroll requirements. 
  • Experience supporting monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll processes, including US Federal W-2 preparation, Federal and State payroll tax reconciliations, taxable wage balancing, and audit documentation. 
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, reporting, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience with payroll, HRIS, or timekeeping systems (Ceridian Dayforce, ADP, or Workday experience preferred).  
  • Ability to handle confidential payroll information with professionalism, accuracy, and discretion. 
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, accountability, and data integrity. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain payroll information clearly and professionally. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet strict payroll deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and align working hours schedule with Payroll Manager (8am-5pm US CT hours). 

The pay range for this position is $20 to $31 per hour (pay to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, balanced against internal equity and competitive market based geographic ranges).
