Job description

This is an internal role at Weekday. Not a role by a client.

  • Role type: Full time
  • Location: Remote
  • Working with: CEO and Cofounder

Weekday is an AI-native recruiting platform. We are backed by Y Combinator and Venture Highway (now General Catalyst). We have built the largest white collar talent database in India and have built tools to run outbound recruiting campaigns to them.

About the role

You’ll work closely with the founders on some of the most important problems at the company.

There isn’t a fixed lane for this role. What you work on will depend on what the company needs at the time. That could mean figuring out why a product isn’t growing, launching a new product or market, improving an internal process, working with customers, researching a new opportunity, or taking on a project that simply doesn’t have an obvious owner yet.

This is a hands-on role. We’re not looking for someone whose job ends at analysing a problem and making a recommendation. You should be comfortable getting into the details and doing the work yourself.

As the company grows, the problems you work on will change. We expect the role to change with them.

What you’ll work on

Depending on the week, you might:

  • Take a new idea from a rough hypothesis to something we can actually test
  • Dig into a part of the business that isn’t working well, understand why, and fix it
  • Work on growth for an existing product, including talking to customers, improving positioning, running experiments, or helping close important deals
  • Research a new market, product, partnership, or business opportunity and decide whether it is worth pursuing
  • Build a process or internal tool where none exists today
  • Work with product and engineering to turn customer or business problems into product changes
  • Take ownership of projects that cut across teams and would otherwise fall between the cracks
  • Help the founders make decisions by getting to the underlying facts quickly

Some projects will last a few days. Others may become something you own for months.

What we’re looking for

  • You’re good at figuring things out. You can take a vaguely defined problem, ask the right questions, and get to a useful answer without needing a detailed brief.
  • You’re comfortable doing the work yourself. If something requires talking to customers, going through data, writing copy, building a spreadsheet, or putting together a quick script, you’ll do it.
  • You have good business judgement. You can distinguish between something that is interesting and something that actually matters.
  • You’re comfortable with numbers and technology. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you should be able to work with data and use technology to make yourself more effective.
  • You communicate clearly. You can write well, explain what you’ve learned, and say when something isn’t working.
  • You take ownership. Once you take something on, the founders shouldn’t have to keep checking whether it is moving.
  • You care about details. A lot of this job involves noticing things other people miss and following through on them.
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity. Priorities will change and you won’t always have a playbook to follow.

We care less about whether you’ve had a “Founder’s Office” title before. You could come from startups, consulting, product, growth, operations, investing, or something else entirely. What matters is whether you can learn quickly and get useful things done.

What you get

You’ll work directly with the founders and get exposure to most parts of the company.

You’ll see how decisions get made, work on problems before they have dedicated teams around them, and have a lot of room to take ownership. If something you start becomes important enough, there’s a good chance you’ll continue to own it.

This role is a good fit for someone who eventually wants to build a company, run a business or product line, or become a generalist operator at an early-stage company.
