Job Description:

Position Summary

The Digital Content Creator is a strategic storyteller with strong digital instincts and a sharp eye for how content performs online. A nimble, collaborative partner to Hamilton’s Communications and Marketing team, the successful candidate will help shape and refine the College’s web presence through high-impact content updates, SEO-informed recommendations, and ongoing optimization.

This role will play a key part in strengthening how Hamilton shows up in search — including AI-driven discovery — while ensuring our digital content remains clear, useful, and audience-centered.  This position may be expected to visit campus on occasion for meetings, to cover a story, or for major College events.

With the exception of federal/state mandated benefits, this position is non-benefited part-time with an estimated schedule of 20 hours per week (total work hours per year are limited to under 910).

Responsibilities

  • Review, update, and optimize webpage content as assigned to improve clarity, usability, accessibility, and alignment with brand voice.

  • Apply and recommend SEO and content best practices (including evolving search and AI trends) to enhance visibility and audience reach.

  • Assist with crafting audience-focused email content that drives engagement and action.

  • Participate periodically in Content Strategy meetings to contribute ideas, surface opportunities, and align on priorities.

  • Provide support for priority digital initiatives, marketing campaigns, and content-driven projects across the College.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or related field.

  • At least two years of professional writing experience.

  • Experience creating and optimizing digital content for both audiences and search performance.

  • Familiarity with SEO practices, web content management systems, and digital accessibility standards.

  • Knowledge of AP Style preferred.

  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to adapt writing style and tone for different audiences, from prospective students to alumni.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills; comfortable working with diverse stakeholders.

  • Curiosity about how people find and engage with content, and a willingness to test, learn, and iterate.

  • Demonstrated ability working in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and content needs shift.
