Job description

About us

Since its inception, TAO Solutions has established itself as a boutique software provider specializing in the design and delivery of advanced securitization and structured finance technologies. The company’s mission is to be the global leader in proven, niche solutions that bring transparency, flexibility, automation, robustness, and analytical rigour to the administration of complex financial programs, including securitization, Asset-Backed Commercial Paper (ABCP) conduits, and covered bond structures.

Our headquarters are in Toronto, with additional offices in Sydney, Australia and San Diego, USA. We operate with an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking mindset, where innovation is encouraged and initiative is valued. This is an environment where talented, driven individuals have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and help shape the future of our company.

Position Summary

The systems & Database Administrator is a remote role responsible for the operation, security, and reliability of TAO Solutions' corporate and client-hosted IT infrastructure. You will administer servers, networks, firewalls, and Microsoft SQL Server environments, handling everything from backend troubleshooting and security hardening to performance monitoring.

Unlike a traditional Systems Engineer, this role features a heavy database administration component requiring practical experience with SQL backups, scripts, migrations, and tuning. Because you will operate within live client production environments, you must strictly follow established change management procedures, assess potential operational impacts, and maintain secure, highly available systems.

This role is a CONTRACT role that will provide day-to-day technical support to our Australia-based employees while collaborating with the Toronto Systems Engineering team.

Hourly Contract Rate: $14 - $25 CAD/hour

Placement within the range above will be determined through evaluation of experience and skills reviewed through the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain server roles, services, permissions, scheduled tasks, and related infrastructure components.
  • Participate in planned maintenance, upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects.
  • Review system and application logs, monitoring alerts, and security scan results to troubleshoot issues and identify potential risks.

Database Administration

  • Troubleshoot database-related errors and performance issues.
  • Execute SQL scripts and data maintenance or data-scrubbing procedures as required.

  • Assist with user account administration, permissions, security groups, and access requests.
  • Coordinate with the Toronto-based Systems Engineering team to resolve issues requiring additional expertise or escalation.
  • Communicate technical issues, planned maintenance, and service interruptions clearly to affected users and stakeholders.

Security, Compliance & Client Environments

  • Perform user access reviews, system security reviews, and other security-related administrative activities.
