The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our engineering organization. Standing at the intersection of infrastructure and software delivery, you will support our engineering teams through the full lifecycle of our systems, from designing and provisioning cloud and on-premises infrastructure to deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving the applications that run on it. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the platforms that power VarSome.

We thrive in a high-pressure, high-performance environment where clinical precision and rapid growth meet. While our pace is fast, it is always directed by rigorous organization and clear
processes, ensuring that our commitment to quality is never compromised by our drive for speed.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure
Delivery: Design, build, and maintain our cloud and on-premises infrastructure using IaC with Terraform and Configuration Management with Ansible; work closely with software engineers to design, deploy, and manage applications running on Linux servers across GCP, OCI, and ON-PREM environments.
  • Network
Architecture: Design, implement, and manage secure and scalable network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, and load balancing in our cloud environments.
  • Deployment & Reliability
Support: Develop and maintain our CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build for seamless application delivery, managing code repositories and collaboration through GitHub; proactively troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement remediation fixes to ensure business continuity with minimum downtime.
  • Operational
Optimization & Support: Design, implement, and manage scalable logging, monitoring, and alerting systems; utilize Python and Bash scripting to automate operational tasks and improve efficiency; configure and manage our API ecosystem using APISIX Gateway, and provide on-call support according to scheduled rotation.
  • Technical
Advocacy: Contribute to project planning, including task estimation and the creation of comprehensive technical documentation; continuously investigate and suggest improvements to enhance system performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with peers and architects to ensure compliance with company standards and security best practices.

The Ideal Candidate (Profile)

The ideal candidate combines strong infrastructure and automation expertise and a passion for reliability engineering with a proactive mindset. You should be able to translate complex technical requirements into robust, scalable solutions, while possessing the communication skills necessary to engage both software engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.

What you will bring:

  • Education: A University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Expertise: 6+ years of work experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, including a minimum of 4 years working with UNIX/Linux systems, configuration, troubleshooting, and scripting with Python and/or Bash.
  • Technical Knowledge: A solid grasp of Terraform, Ansible, Docker containerization, the HashiCorp stack (Vault, Packer), Git/GitHub, and networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and cloud networking concepts (VPCs, firewalls, load balancers); hands on experience with cloud providers, ideally GCP and OCI.
  • Communication: The ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.
  • Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must.

Strongly Valued

Knowledge: Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, or cloud-native solutions.
  • Certifications: GCP or OCI certifications are nice to have.
  • Global Mindset: Proven experience in multicultural environments and/or supporting internationally distributed engineering teams in a scale-up setting.
