Midnight

Blockchain, Crypto & Web3

Share proofs, not sensitive data. Reduce the burden of regulatory compliance. Build better (decentralized) apps. Developers and businesses can use Midnight Network, an innovative new data protection blockchain, to build decentralized applications that safeguard sensitive data, without sacrificing performance and regulatory requirements. Developers can build on Midnight in a novel and easy to use programming model based on Typescript, and zero knowledge (ZK) proofs. The ZK technology behind Midnight enables programmable data protection. App builders keep data in control of the owner while respecting regulatory compliance, freeing people and businesses to achieve their full potential, knowing their most important assets, identity, property and actions – are protected. Midnight has a shielded ledger and an unshielded ledger so you can keep both public and confidential information on-chain. This uniquely enables organizations to engage in selective disclosure, a functionality which, until now, has limited greater enterprise adoption of blockchain technology. Midnight is now live on testnet. About Midnight

Midnight is building a regulatory-friendly data protection blockchain designed to safeguard sensitive commercial and personal data while enabling developers, enterprises, institutions, and ecosystem partners to build privacy-preserving applications.

The Midnight Operations team works with internal Engineering teams and our external infrastructure partner, BCW, to run the secure, reliable, and scalable multi-cloud and bare-metal platforms that power Midnight deployments.

Role Summary

The DevOps Engineer strengthens and scales the infrastructure behind Midnight's blockchain networks, with a focus on managing and automating Midnight validator nodes. The role reports to the Director of Protocol Operations and works closely with internal engineering teams and BCW, progressively taking ownership of day-to-day infrastructure operations.

  • Keeps critical blockchain infrastructure available and performant, targeting 99.99% uptime
  • Manages and automates validator operations across multi-cloud and bare-metal environments
  • Helps guide the transition from a federated to a fully decentralised validator network
  • Build and configure dev, test and mainnet environments for blockchain and development partners
  • Build best in class Telemetry tooling and ETL dashboards to support remote monitoring
  • This is a very hands-on role with focus on ability to build solutions and work under own initiative

Core Responsibilities

Protocol Reliability & Incident Response

  • Ensure 99.99% uptime of critical blockchain infrastructure and implement reliability improvements
  • Participate in the on-call rota, mitigating and resolving production incidents and writing blameless post-mortems
  • Troubleshoot testing and deployment issues, resolving protocol-level bottlenecks ahead of mainnet upgrades

Validator Operations & Decentralisation

  • Manage, maintain, and automate Cardano and Midnight validator nodes for performance, reliability, and scale
  • Develop and maintain open-source tools for Cardano and Midnight infrastructure across multi-cloud and bare-metal
  • Support the transition from a foundation-coordinated federated validator model to a fully decentralised network
  • Optimization of the roll out templates for FNO’s and future Stake Pool Operators
  • Review and recommend feedback and monthly reports on FNO and internal teams

Security, Performance & Delivery

  • Strengthen security posture by identifying vulnerabilities and improving security controls
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to optimise infrastructure and validator performance
  • Build and maintain secure deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions and other CI/CD tools

Infrastructure Ownership & Collaboration

  • Progressively own day-to-day infrastructure management, coordinating closely with BCW and internal teams
  • Share technical feedback and recommendations, and proactively drive automation and improvements

Requirements

Recommended Experience & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, including at least 1 year with blockchain infrastructure
  • Practical experience managing blockchain nodes or validator infrastructure
  • Strong Linux administration skills and working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar observability tools
  • Strong shell scripting, with knowledge of Rust, Go, or Python
  • Experience configuring, scaling, and optimising cloud infrastructure, ideally on AWS and Google Cloud
  • Experience of using infrastructure as code (IAC) using TerraForm and/or OpenTofu
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins
  • Strong grasp of infrastructure security principles and practical improvements
  • Clear communication and documentation, including infrastructure designs and recommendations for internal and external teams
  • Remote from an eligible location in Asia, Europe, or LATAM, with 1–2 hours of daily US or EU overlap, a flexible schedule (Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday), and on-call participation
  • Bonus: Cardano stake pool, partner chain, or validator experience; GitOps and Nix; or work in a small, fast-moving technology company
