About the company

SchoolGrid logo

SchoolGrid

A great school meals service thrives on excellent customer care and we help Local Authority caterers, Academies and Individual schools achieve the very highest standards of service delivery. In partnership with our clients, we have a proven track record of increasing meal uptake, productivity and efficiencies - whilst reducing food wastage across primary and secondary schools. SchoolGrid has a wide range of resources available to support school caterers, including menu and recipe management, kitchen management, classroom and home pre-ordering, school office support, parent engagement and much more. Schools love the simplicity and efficiency of the system, as do our Chef/Catering Manager users, Pupils and Parents. We are proud of our Allergy Management System, which has been developed to protect the safety of children having a school lunch and provides parents and schools with the reassurance that this rigorous process delivers. Our Training and Support package is perhaps one of our greatest features. We do ‘boots on the ground’ and fully manage our roll-outs. We visit schools twice before ‘Go Live’ day and spend a whole day on site when the system is launched to help the catering team and the school. We have a professional Support Team who deal with all parent, school and caterer enquiries ongoing. This has resulted in a very loyal (and increasing) client portfolio, who are always happy to show others the features and benefits of the system. We can arrange a demonstration or a visit to a local SchoolGrid school so you can see the system in action! For more information or an informal chat, please call our Edinburgh based team on 01506 300310.

Job description

This is a remote position.

We're looking for a driven, organised and delivery focused Product Delivery Manager to make sure our product roadmap actually gets shipped, at pace and to a high standard. This role is all about ownership: once a feature or change is scoped, you make it move, through user stories, development and release, quickly and without cutting corners on quality.

You'll work closely with the development team, holding them to account for sprint commitments, removing blockers before they slow things down, and stepping in early wherever pace or quality starts to slip.

You'll be working closely with the Engineering Manager, Squad Leads and QA Lead, reporting into the CTO, so if you thrive in a fast paced environment where you're comfortable pushing a team to deliver and taking ownership of the whole delivery pipeline, this could be a great next step.

Please note that we can only accept applications from UK based candidates and are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Execution ownership and pace

  • Own execution of scoped work from user story through to development completion and release, driving pace at every stage of the cycle.
  • Hold the development team to account for delivery against sprint commitments, challenging slippage directly and escalating early wherever pace or quality is at risk.
  • Work with the Engineering Manager and Squad Leads to plan sprints, balance capacity and maximise team throughput and flow.
  • Manage scope creep and handle functional trade-offs actively during development cycles.
  • Map and resolve cross-squad and platform dependencies proactively, rather than waiting for blockers to be raised, to keep delivery on track.
  • Partner with the QA Lead to ensure completed work meets the definition of done and fulfils the intended business outcomes without sacrificing speed of delivery.

Backlog ownership and requirements refinement

  • Translate high-level roadmap initiatives and customer change requests into well-defined epics, features and user stories, setting up each piece of work for fast, unambiguous execution.
  • Partner with Product Designers, Engineers and business stakeholders to clarify acceptance criteria and edge cases before development starts.
  • Maintain, monitor and prioritise the team backlog based on strategic value, urgency and technical dependencies.
  • Triage reported system bugs alongside feature work to ensure the right balance of technical debt resolution and new functionality.

Process leadership and continuous improvement

  • Foster an environment of high team accountability, removing operational blockers to maximise delivery flow and pace.
  • Champion consistent Agile delivery practices, facilitating core planning and execution ceremonies where required.
  • Monitor delivery metrics, including cycle time, velocity and release predictability, and act on them directly to keep the team executing at pace.
  • Ensure engineering standards and governance guidelines are maintained throughout the delivery lifecycle, so pace is never achieved at the expense of quality.

Stakeholder communication and release planning

  • Serve as the functional point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding delivery timelines, milestone progress and scope adjustments.
  • Coordinate release schedules with Operations and Product Management to ensure smooth end-user deployment and change management.

Requirements

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a software engineering related subject.
  • Experience with Large-Scale Scrum or Scrum.
  • 5+ years' software development experience.
  • Experience in leading or managing remote teams.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confident in managing senior stakeholders.

Benefits

  • 40 days holiday (including bank holidays) because balance matters
  • Remote first approach
  • Ongoing development opportunities, including mentoring from senior leadership
  • Supportive, approachable team culture that values initiative and ideas
  • Career progression with being part of a fast growing company, bringing great opportunities.
