Job description

Indigo Research provides a unique opportunity to mentor highly motivated high school students from around the world, helping them learn about academic research and complete a college-level project. Our program offers high-quality research mentorship to aspiring students from diverse backgrounds, with the goals of giving them valuable experience in academic research and making a significant impact on their future academic and professional careers.

As an Indigo Project Coach, you will work alongside Indigo Research Mentors to support students in one of the most critical phases of their research journey: translating ideas into clear, structured academic writing.

While Research Mentors guide the intellectual direction, methodology, and rigor of the project, your role is focused specifically on writing and project execution β€” helping students move from notes, outlines, and research insights into confident, well-structured drafts.

You will collaborate with students, mentors, and Indigo administrators to ensure that bottlenecks do not slow project momentum or limit the quality of final outputs.

Scope of Support

As a Project Coach, you will support students in developing the academic writing skills and workflows needed to succeed in their Indigo Research project. You may work with students before they begin mentorship or alongside their Research Mentor during the drafting process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research & Writing Preparation: Help students develop initial research directions, formulate research questions, engage with academic literature, and understand the fundamentals of academic research and writing.

  • Academic Writing Development: Teach students how to structure arguments, synthesize sources, develop paragraphs, and communicate ideas clearly and effectively in academic English.

  • Drafting & Revision Support: Guide students in turning research notes and ideas into structured sections of their paper, including introductions, literature reviews, and methodology framing.

  • Writing Feedback: Provide actionable feedback on structure, argumentation, clarity, coherence, transitions, academic tone, and paragraph-level writing.

  • Writing Process & Accountability: Help students establish effective research and writing workflows, break their work into manageable milestones, and maintain consistent drafting and revision momentum.

  • Student Ownership: Provide frameworks, guidance, and feedback while ensuring students remain responsible for developing their own ideas, arguments, and written work.

  • Mentor Collaboration: Coordinate with the student’s Research Mentor where needed to ensure writing support complements the research mentorship process.

  • Preparation & Administration: Review student materials before sessions, maintain accurate session notes and progress tracking, submit session reports within 48 hours, and respond to Indigo communications within 48 hours.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Top 20 universities

  • Strong background in academic writing and research

  • Experience teaching or coaching writing at a high school or undergraduate level

  • Ability to break down complex writing concepts into clear, actionable guidance

  • Comfortable working with high-achieving, international students

  • Able to balance structure and flexibility based on student needs
