Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled, detail-oriented, and self-directed Full-Charge Bookkeeper / CPA to manage end-to-end bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients spanning multiple industries — including construction, oil and gas, and day spa / wellness. This role covers everything from initial QBO setup through ongoing full-cycle bookkeeping, financial reporting, and year-end preparation.

The ideal candidate is a CPA — or actively working toward CPA licensure — with hands-on QuickBooks Online proficiency and experience managing books across different business types simultaneously. You will own each client's books completely, setting up their QBO environment correctly from the start and maintaining accurate, clean, audit-ready financials throughout the engagement.

This is a high-trust, full-ownership role. You are not entering data for someone else to review — you are the accountant, and the quality of the work is your responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Bookkeeping

•     Own the complete bookkeeping cycle for all assigned clients — from daily transaction entry through month-end close and financial reporting

•     Categorize and reconcile all transactions accurately, ensuring every entry is coded to the correct account, class, and job or cost center

•     Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for all accounts

•     Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable for each client, including vendor invoice processing and customer billing support

•     Accrue expenses monthly and post adjusting journal entries as required

Construction Bookkeeping — Job Costing

•     Maintain job cost tracking for construction clients — coding labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and equipment to the correct job and cost code

•     Support work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and percentage-of-completion tracking where applicable

•     Assist with progress billing and lien waiver documentation coordination

•     Track subcontractor payments and support 1099 preparation at year-end

Financial Reporting

•     Prepare and deliver monthly financial statement packages for each client — including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports

•     Provide clear, actionable financial summaries tailored to each client's level of financial sophistication

•     Flag variances, anomalies, or cash flow concerns proactively — clients should not discover problems on their own

•     Support quarterly and year-end financial reporting and coordinate with external CPAs or tax preparers as needed

Required Qualifications

•     CPA license or actively pursuing CPA licensure — required

•     Advanced QuickBooks Online proficiency — including company setup, chart of accounts design, class tracking, reconciliations, and reporting

•     Experience managing full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients simultaneously across different industries

•     Demonstrated experience with construction bookkeeping and job costing — this is a core requirement given the client mix

•     Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to accurate, clean financials

•     Self-directed and organized — you manage your own workload, meet deadlines without being reminded, and flag issues proactively

•     Strong written communication skills for client-facing financial summaries and correspondence

•     Reliable remote setup with high-speed internet

What Makes You a Great Fit

•     You set up a QBO file the right way from the start — clean chart of accounts, correct classifications, and a structure that holds up as the business grows

•     Each client's books are reconciled, current, and accurate — without anyone having to ask

•     You understand construction job costing well enough that the numbers you produce actually help a contractor manage their business

•     You flag problems to clients before they become surprises — not after

•     You are the kind of accountant that clients stay with for years because they trust you completely with their numbers
